Pellegrini didn't handle Riquelme, he got rid of him, that's a key point because no Real Madrid manager could get rid of a galáctico just as Spaletti can't get rid of Totti.
Getting rid of Riquelme was how you handle him.

I know not all players are given the complete fanfare of Cristiano, Kaka' and Benzema, but they are all subject the repeated club + media rhetoric of Madrid being the pinacle of club football.
The reason I have come to that conclussion is that in the last 5 Madrid games I have seen, (2 of which were in the flesh, none of which were victories), the players haven't shown respect to their opponent. Whether its Alcorcon or Milan, virtually every player has not been giving their all for the full 90 minutes. Flashes of their abbility, but nothing more.
The difference is maybe in what we judge to be the cause of that. You say its Manu's failing as a manager, maybe. But a Villarreal he was able to motivate a squad, containing perhaps sluggish players, (Riquelme), and make them run, run , run at opponents every game, all season. So for me its not so simple as Manu is poor at his job, there must be more to it than that.
I also want to add, that for all his failings and criticisms, in the two games I went to with Milan and in El Molinon, Drenthe was the only player to actually put in a alot of effort and run for the whole game, so I don't wish to include him in my statements on the squad.
I think you're close to the truth here and for me the attitude of the current real madrid is summed up by Pepe taunting Fernando Torres because Liverpool had only won 5 European Cups, Torres quite rightly quipped "but how many have you won?". I think that right now players are arriving at real madrid and they're seeing the history as some sort of personal accolade which they can claim for themselves rather than as something to aspire to. Players being presented at the Bernabéu in front of all the European cups when they weren't the players that won them is just wrong, we all know what's in the madrid trophy cabinet yet players are arriving and thinking they've already won the lot. The attitude of entitlement and an arrogance that means the players believe they can win matches without getting off the coach is prevalent in the CL more than anywhere, a competition in which madrid have been booted out in the first KO stage since they last won the cup. The belief that madrid "own" the European cup means they don't go out there to give everything because they believe they should be given it all to begin with.
Yes, but if you can't handle Ronaldo or Benzema that option isn't there.
Yeah Nolan is right , already there are some rumors that Real could actually offload Benzema very soon as in this winter or next summer
