This is their own Neymar saga.

Their star player decides he wants to leave to a rival(League this time) and with elections coming up and the President totally doesn't want to be that guy that let Nico go without much of a fight.

Gotta look strong and convince people that we did all we could.

So Nico is a starter or rotation option?

We have Nico, Raphinha, Olmo, Fermin,Ferran,Yamal, Lewandoski. Who starts, who is benched?
Nico-Raphinha-Yamal
Lewandowski

would assume would be the starting quartet, at least in the first half of the season, for the biggest games and when everyone is fit. Olmo first option off the bench (and starting when in form) for either Nico (last season's formation), Raphinha (like for like CAM replacement) or Lewandowski (Raphinha/Olmo to play false nine, maybe even interchangeable in that 2nd formation. Or even for Yamal, with Raphinha then probably moving to RW.

Fermin and Ferran purely rotation option, and using them depending on the game state. Fermin either at CAM or LW, Ferran mostly ST, if/when Lewa isn't there, but if we also don't wanna play with a false nine, but with a real one (striker). And if neither Yamal or Raphinha are there, Nico can also play RW, the starters then being Fermin-Olmo-Nico and Ferran up front. So many options.

If it’s not Nico- who do people suggest we buy that cost the same price?

I dont think there is anyone available?

And dont suggest this Gyokeres guy. Clearly he is a scrub that no one wants to touch with a ten foot pole.
Considering Forest wanting like 70M for fucking Elanga and Brentford most likely actually getting that same amount for Mbeumo (I know PL is in its own world and bubble, but still), Nico for 60M is a fucking steal. And there's no other option...or at least there shouldn't be. Bilbao already hate us, at this point, we must persist with Nico...gonna be even more sweet when we do take him away from them. And with the chemistry with most important Yamal and Pedri already there, it's a no brainer, should fit into the team seamlessly, and gives us so many more options for rotation in those 4 attacking positions, especially with basically all players except Lewandowski being able to play at least two different positions. Attacking wise we'd really have a squad ready to tackle and win every competition available, even when injuries come.

Bilbao are trash and have been for a while. At least against us, they are all smiles with the white scum otherwise. I was overjoyed when United stuffed them in EL People while people were twerking for Valverde’s terrorists.

Bunch of hypocritical imbeciles. They raid the likes of Osasuna whenever they like but god forbid someone wants their players and intend to pay a clause they themselves agreed to and signed.

Ultimate bitch club.

Much to do about nothing this media stir from Bilbao and a fake show of power.

Alex Baena to Atleti has been agreed for even longer and Atleti won't be paying the clause until after July 1st.

Athletic intended to inform LaLiga and RFEF during the Liga F Extraordinary Assembly in Madrid, of its intention to audit Barça's accounts to verify whether Barça is in the 1:1 position to sign Nico.

Although reportedly they haven't done so yet, it remains to be seen whether they do so in the following days.

Although players contracts on the other hand are generally paid by the players themselves, which is different from registration of players.

I like Athletic and their policy about no foreign players but they really overestimate themselves as a club. They think they are as big as us but the sad reality for them is that they are not and they can't accept it. It was the same with Javi and Llorente and they left for a foregin club.

Hope Laporta isn't lying again this time and we can really buy and register him

Also they should respect Nico's career here a bit. He wants to go to Barca. Respect his decision. In the end, he was good for them.

How the hell can a club audit another club's finances? Isn't that information private?

Maybe somebody should tell them, that Barca doesn't need anything to sign a player. The rules are only for the registration in LaLiga. I can also buy a car without having a license. Athletic has absolutely no argument against paying Nico's release clause.
