Yes but as long as you don't know how the talks with the 3/4 other defenders look like, you should not think that a signing of Mathieu is impossible.

Wish we would sign him. Not as a centerback option but as a leftback option at least. He is fast, he is tall, he is strong, he is French. Perfect Abidal successor. Alba is not an appropriate defender against proper teams. I have decided that I will hate on Alba from now on. We need a new leftback or we will get raped on our left side with Neymar-Alba against any team not named Zaragoza, Deportivo etc. I swear, Benzema alone weighs more than Neymar and Alba together.

Bartra looked terrible. Mathieu is a much tougher, grittier player than he is. I would be much more comfortable with him out there than the soft Bartra if/when the club incurs injuries.

Mathieu is solid as they come. Plays 2 positions, tall and experienced. And would come for peanuts.
I'd still welcome him in Barca for next season.
