honestly… what a shit show. I get that we had absolutely nothing to play for, and having a goal, a purpose, always makes it easier, but this was absolutely dreadful to watch, as so many other games of the season.

I’m surprised that Xavi didn’t give some youngsters a chance to start, as they absolutely would have had something to play for. How about starting Garcia as our pívot, and giving Torre and Yamal a shot?

I know that @jamrock is joking when he says sack Xavi, but after having watched City in midweek, what I watched tonight was just sad. My head hurts.

Damn…he said something in his speech that really is a red flag. He directed himself to Laporta and said something along the lines of “See? It’s not that bad.”

I can only hope that poor level of language had me misunderstand it. But my Spanish unfortunately is good enough.

Cool interview with Xavi. Some insight into the better and difficult moments of the season. How he reacted etc. David Villa also there.

Sounded like a man who was under pressure after the CL exit lol

He brought in some homemade guac pre game which Laporta didn't appreciate.

But seriously, didn't watch, so what do you think this was in context to?

Madrid lost 7 matches so far this season. That is not going to happen again next season. Madrid lost the title this season,we didn't win it.
There are still too many questions surrounding Xavi. Still too many doubts. Next season is make or break for him. I doubt Laporta is going to let him get away with a third consecutive European humiliation.

Just saw him tell Gemma post-match "it's normal we lost today."

Imagine if City were to lose to Chelsea today never see Pep say the same.

Disgusting he has no shame.

Analytically, the troubling thing about this from the champion’s point of view…it continues a pattern we’ve seen all season. They really, really struggled," Hunter said.

"On what we’ve seen in recent weeks with players a little bit more fresh, players back, even Lewandowski scoring goals, we’ve still seen the job of work for the club remains absolutely gigantic.

"The champions had a left-back playing at right-back tonight. They missed a 20-year-old, a 19-year-old and Araujo at centre-half who probably would’ve compensated for Kounde’s mistakes. But you’ve got two kids missing and they can’t pass anymore.

"Sorry to put a dampener on the celebrations but that’s what we’re here for and those are the facts.

Others can see it too.

I just rewatched to check something and it was as I thought: Xavi says “Presi(president), no somos tan mal.” Because he says somos instead of estamos it translates to “we are not that bad” instead of “our situation is not as bad” and it would seem he is referring to the quality of the squad rather than the state the club is in. So how it looks is that Laporta and Xavi at one point at least had an argument about the quality of the squad. Which I think is fine behind closed doors, but to call him out like that in victory speech was surprising. I don’t think it says anything about Xavi’s situation and that his job was jeopardy. Actually, it shows Xavi and Laporta to have a good understanding since Xavi is comfortable throwing something like that in his speech. But it is a bit of an awkward thing to say especially with all the players standing there behind him. These are seemingly innocuous comments but they expose a lack of confidence from the president which from a PR standpoint is something Xavi might have done better to not have said.

One option I am considering is that within catalan laid-back culture it is permitted for things like this to be casually said. So to outsiders it looks a bit weird.

He's always got some excuse. Simply the wrong man for the job. Won't be surprised if next season is his last. He was lucky this time around.

Could be if he continues to perform badly in Europe.

But lucky that Ancelotti is still RM coach so another Liga tittle in the bag :xavi:
