I struggle to imagine the depths one has to sink to in standing up and actually imitating a monkey in front of children, directing it at someone of color...I mean, there are no words but then again, more & more, I realize we live in a time of hatred, bigotry & prejudice...Feels like we're regressing

Yet, appalling abuse against gay people in the stands and among players and staff go unpunished. It is a selective outrage. People just want to feel good about themselves about condemning something.

You need a history lesson
Employee at the Camp Nou museum caught making monkey gestures, fired & banned for life from the club
What do you mean footy? You believe we always see a linear evolution towards a more rational and 'enlighten' society and moral? A though that we're making progress all the time and leaving 'dark' times behind toward some sort of neo-enlightemnt? Think again...
My statement related directly to FCBarca's comment about the world (that's how I interpreted "we") regressing in terms of racism. I just think that that couldn't be farther from the truth. One's hearing a LOT more about racism nowadays, and that in itself is evidence that we're not regressing. And a lot more is being done nowadays than before in order to curb it. Just because you're hearing about it more doesn't mean racist feelings have been growing.
I don't get how you got the "enlightened" portion from my comments.
