Samuel Umtiti

I remember the hopes we had for this lad during the 16/17 and 17/18 seasons. He was pencilled in as a key piece of any future core. Should have never gave him that massive contract before the World Cup. He got the big payday in June 2018 and decided to ruin his career the following month. Would he have made the same decision if his financial security was not secured yet? Very much doubt it.

It's easy to be smart now but what if in an alternative world he would sign for another club for 60m, never got injured and play on a worldclass level while we'd struggle to find a good replacement for him?

Re-signing him at that point was the right move. Whatever happened after that it's hardly the club's fault. Clubs can't prevent their players from playing official NT games and it was Umtiti's decision to play through injury in Russia.

Arsenal should return us a favor for Vermaelen and take him away.

Or maybe Zubi will get a new job at a good financially stable club and buy another injury prone player.

True. Everyone was pissed he was considering leaving(or used ManU as a bargaining power).

Imagine if we got that sixty mil for him now. Wow. A great deal.

Sometimes it's so hard to predict the future.

He has a bunch of trophies including the World Cup to his name; now is all about enjoying the sweet life in one of the finest cities in the world near the Mediterranean with a perfectly tempered climate. Good for him, terrible for us.

Lol.

I'm not even surprised or mad anymore.

Well, there is literally no reason to be mad. Him starting over Araujo was just a thing of status, not performance. At this point we are better off with Araujo since he brings the necessary fitness to the park. All the experience means nothing when even retired Puyol is faster than you.

It's probably a blessing, too bad the league is lost. I know it's bad to feel this way about your own player, but it would have been better for us if he stayed injured. Cost us the win against Celta. A complete liability these days
