 The assumptions people make...

IF Xavi stays, no one has a clue what kind of system(s) Lucho might employ, and how all the various players might fit into it. Xavi is perfectly capable of playing his moving pivot role, still better than anyone else in the world; Lucho may see situations where that is absolutely what he wants. With Cesc gone and Suarez possibly in front of Messi, we may see a more fluid attack. No question, Barça will still face deep-lying defences, which is the real reason for Xavi's "decline" as a creator.

Could have made a deal for New York, but he doesn't start for another year so it's better for him to stay and tie up the loose ends here.

Zubizarreta, Bartomeu, & Luis Enrique all persuaded Xavi Hernandez to continue at Barcelona for another season [CatRad]

He's still likely to leave in January.

This is just merely extending the time to get a proper deal done and by next year it should get done. Xavi can mentor the young midfielders, though. But he should in absolutely no way shape or form be an untouchable starter at this point in his career.

That's best case scenario but if he insist on playing even though he doesn't deserve it he needs to be told by Lucho.

I'd personally start Rafinha over Xavi in nearly every game. Xavi should be a supersub at this stage of his career.

Don't know why more people don't seem happy about him staying... of course he can't play every game anymore, but with Puyol gone as a player and Valdes gone completely, it's good that one of the old leaders on the pitch is sticking around.

I slept in a Xavi shirt last night = wake up to see that Xavi decides he's staying. Xavi
