It's a shame the thread is mostly about what people think of him as a coach, and critical in that sense. We should talk more about how he might be the GOAT midfielder, as @vegitot does above.

Maybe there should be separate Xavi the player and Xavi the coach threads. As it seems one would be full of praise and the other criticism.

In hoops Kevin McHale used to be famous for having his ‘dungeon’, the low post where he would kill you a thousand different ways. Xavi had the same thing with the ball, he put you on a carousel - and you’d just dance

When Henrik Larsson recounts who impressed him most in trainings, it wasn’t Leo - it was how astounded he was by how no one could take the ball from Xavi

Greatest central midfielder the game has known IMHO and certainly in Spain’s history - the reference

As a coach he has vision but lack of experience. He will succeed in his next club for sure.

LE was pretty pigheaded at the start of his career and it cost him the Roma job- butting heads with Totti and shite results.

So yeah, Xavi can definitely grow. Especially if he gets the right team and improves his staff.

This is the worrying part here.

Xavi with all his experience and knowledge where he's surely gotten to know dozens of staff members from around the world throughout his time as a footballer, should not have to rely on his brothers, cousins and friends.

When Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen could put together a more established staff, albeit with some inexperience with some guys, there should be no excuse for Xavi not doing the same.

I hope he does it when he gets his next job and doesn't bring along the same guys.

yeah Xavi being poor as a coach shouldn't diminish how good he was as a player, just like for Maradona
