This goes beyond Laporta or his supporters though, and I don't mean it to defend Laporta.
It is a systematic issue in the club and its fanbase, period. Even today most of the fanbase care more about LW when we have Rapha, and will have Lewa's replacement as priority.
The club rarely valued defenders that much, they always gets cheap when it comes to defense. Get a free agent, a cheap signing, or change a midfielder position, promote a kid, whatever. Let's save money for attacking player to appease the fans.
Barca DNA is total football, that defenders must know how to pass, but isn’t really that total when we ask attackers to defend, or even defenders to defend properly.
Even Laporta's current rival, Font, is trying to sell fans he will bring Halaand.
We simply don't appreciate defense enough to care. They will promote Hafiz Gariba, Torrents or whichever defender capable of making a nice pass and call it a day.
