Nope, it was reported some time ago that clubs can legally talk to La Liga players at basically any time since they have release clauses.

I can't get my hopes up.

Firstly because it's Barca and we don't do smart logical deals like this.

Secondly because all the rumors don't make sense, there is no chance we will have three goalkeepers in the team. Looks like Tek is staying, MATS in untouchable, so why would they buy Garcia? Can they be so retarded they actually want to loan him while the Terorrist plays for us?

To be fair it was already reported last year that Deco was looking for a starting GK for the future and was going to prioritize someone who is tall, and a good shot-stopper over their distribution.

Flick probably asked for a new GK, but I think Deco also was in the hunt for one regardless.

That said no one knows ter Stegen better than Flick. He was an assistant coach for Germany and then later the coach for the NT for pretty much all of ter Stegen's career. And he still chose a Neuer who was rusty after suffering a very serious injury over ter Stegen.

This had nothing to do with performance though. Neuer was Bayern's and Germany's captain for years. His standing weighted too much in the team to leave him on the bench even for a (slightly) worse performance. Most fans (even Bayern) in Germany were outraged by that decision, but Germany's NT always feared to anger the mighty Bayern bosses Hoeneß and Rummenigge.
