Populistic horseshit, game stats say otherwise. People just love to repeat it, because 1-2 dangerous counter-attacks against a high-line burn into their minds, as well as many offsides, who look dangerous, but are meaningless, because that's the tactic to provoke exactly these kind of things.

But it's typical muppet logic as old as the internet. Just declare a statement, if you're right: "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" If you're wrong: "It's because of other reasons!!!!"

As Flick always said and knew, the issue was the pressing. If the pressing is off, or broke on a counter we will look a shambles.

But go watch Arsenal, Europe's best team currently even if the entertainment value is a big fat zero.

They also press the opponent completely in the opponents half. Yet no one talks of the high line, because the pressing is intensive and working.

Tend to agree. And spot on on the bolded part and I would add we also often count or remember all those dangerous actions that eventually get called offside.

Plenty to improve at the back and Joan is impressive but we definitely exaggarate negatively the state of our defense.

Yeah, that's what I wrote. Offside situations don't get included in the xG statistics, but in our minds they do. So our mind plays us a trick here, while the statistic of the "expected to be conceded" goals paints a better picture. Obviously the statistic is not the holy grail either, but if you're leading in it, then your defense can't be that bad and shambolic. People just get used to insult the defense, if they see an individual mistake, or some dangerous counter-attack.

But these are snapshots, certainly need to be improved, especially if we want to win against the top CL opponents, but they don't tell the overall situation, that is absolutely okay at this point of the season.

But the key difference is we have a clutch goal keeper, like I and a few others were saying it's the biggest upgrade we can make this summer.

He's kept clean sheets where we would other wise concede and will make a save or two to keep us in big games
