European Super League

Didn't the early ESL papers show founders will have spot for 15-20 years? It's not forever.. it's actually pretty short time compared what crap they have to take now. I am fine with that.

This would never happen without the guarantee of them making at least some money of it.. It would be dumb. They are already taking risk here.

Its not forever, but its a damn long time. As said, the concept is very good but it needs a few tweaks. If there are 12 founder clubs, they could have atleast 8 qualifying teams to make it 20 teams in total, or another 12 to make it 24 so the Sevillas, Leicesters, Napolis etc get a fair chance to compete in the ESL aswell. They probably wont win it ever but they have shown they can beat the best clubs. Just have the best performing teams in CL (that are not the founding clubs ofc) qualify and thats it.

I think it's necessary to point out that the founding clubs must have their places guaranteed to establish the Super League. Sure they will be rewarded financially but it is also a necessity that they consistently participate to guarantee the funding and the tv rights.

After 15-20 years once the league is established, expanded and replaced the CL then we will see how the domestic league performances gain entrance into the SL and the system evolves. The lesser leagues in Europe will probably have their regional Super League's by then (with the big 4/5 staying purely domestic) and we will wonder how we ever stayed with the old archaic Uefa model for so long.

Exactly. This is what I believe would happen.

In the same way that Haaland wouldn’t want to play for Dortmund if they don’t make top 4, that will happen on a massive scale. All the top players will only want to play for the “Super League” teams who will be able to offer ridiculous contracts through the money they’ve been given. Gap will widen between the top and bottom teams, players like Vardy who’s been loyal to Leicester, would he want to play for them knowing he likely won’t get a chance to fight for a place in Europe...

And why would Leicester or West Ham care about getting top 4 like this season when other teams will already be guaranteed their place. Similarly why would Chelsea etc care about finishing anywhere between 2nd-16th when they are guaranteed their place too.

If they don't win their league, the only other incentive is to not get relegated.

Other European competitions or chance to qualify for ESL.

Why would it alienate fans more so than UEFAs proposal?

UEFA's proposal is just increasing the number of teams in the CL and making it a league-type system instead of group stage, no? I don't see how that alienates fans. Super league alienates fans by making it an elitist group of ''popular'' teams that earn more revenue from each other and leaving others in the dust. Matches will be held god knows where, clubs will buy superstars only making it harder for youngsters from academies to break through, ticket prices will likely skyrocket for the big games, leaving local working class fans only able to watch lowly regarded league games. It just kills the passion for the game and only benefits the already rich.
