The only issue with Diaz is that price must reflect the age. Get it done for 40+10 variabiles. I have no problem to pay 10m in bonuses if we win the CL or he hits some high individual markers.

This forum underrates him.

As for a young player, it is a high reward proposition to go after a hot talent. We already scored 100 league goals and we have Raphinha on LW. It's not like we need the signing to be better than Raph. He needs to do better than fecking Fati. Should be very easy for a talent like Fofana. This low pressure allows us to take a risk for a potential top player to move past Raph in 2-3 years.

The risk is that if Raph gets injured, I'd rather have Diaz than Fofana in a CL semifinal.

It depends a lot if we attack CL next season or we think more in medium and long term. Diaz makes sense to me if Liverpool can be pressured to sell him for what they got him for. Absolutely they should not make a profit from selling a 3 year older Diaz.

Flick will have a say for sure. The team is very close to be the best in Europe so a player that is used to playing at a high level like Diaz and can contribute straight away is a good plan.

They won't sign Fofana. It's clear they want a player that can step up if Lamine/Raphinha are injured or need rest, or just for rotations in general. You won't see them signing a project or developmental player unless Fofana is as talented and can make the step Doue and Barcola did immediately after joining PSG.

I haven't watched enough of him to say whether he is at that level or not.

As for the other options of Diaz, Nico, Leao, Rashford, Lookman then all of them have their own issues where you will not find a consensus among the fanbase.

As serghei and others have said, the price will be the key factor here. You cannot sign a winger who will be 29 years old next season for more than 40-50m euros in total max, and even for this price there are some issues as you don't know if the decline will hit soon or in a few years. There's no guarantee you will be able to sell him to Saudi either because very few players want to leave Barcelona after they have joined us.

I'll also say that when PSG signed Kvaratskhelia for 70m + 10m in add-ons, then none of the wingers we are linked to should even match the fixed price of 70m. None of these guys are better than him, and the club have to be smart about who they sign.

It's not just about the price, but the opportunity cost as well. If you sign Diaz or Leao for 60-70m and they flop then not only have you failed at making the team better, but you've also chosen possibly better options ahead of them and maybe even lost out on better players that become available in 2026/2027 with how our financial situation/salary cap situation is.

It will be extremely myopic to think Fofana is a project. Besides, you already have a starter in Raph and Yamal, why would you want to spend 60m on another 29 year old "starter" for a bench role?

Barcola and Doue also looked like projects before PSG snapped them up now they are considered top players. Yamal was a project last season too.

Ironically, Liverpool is already lining up the same Fofana for 25m if Barca stupdly pay 60m for a 29 year old Diaz in the search for a "starter material". In 2 years Barca will be bidding 100m for Fofana from Liverpool.

Fofana has pace, just 25m, very young, two legged and in the ascendancy vs Diaz with average pace , one superior leg, 29 years and in the decline.

Knowing Barca management and their antecedents, it is obvious the one they will go for

Please no Diaz. Cost is too much considering his age. This feels like Griezmann all over again, you thought we dodged a bullet only for them to sign him a season later..

Plus, with the team needing to get its books into better shape, spending big money on older players is not the way to do it. You do it by signing younger players who's value can grow (and maintain black ink for the books for many years).

Two things is very bothersome with Diaz, his end product and his fetish for stop and hold the attack instead of playing more direct. The first should be bothersome enough tot even consider him, the second one is directly detrimental to how this new Barca is playing. No thanks.
