That was a deal between Laporta and that Cury fellow. No chance we sell Roque for that much unless it was some pre arranged situation. We didn't really sign Vitor Roque for real.

We probably were not convinced and then the position from the other side was something like, "buy him for X and if he doesn't work out, we can easily make a deal for you to get your money back".

It's not a real transfer.

It was a real transfer and many scouts under tge Alemany/Crujif era approved it, when Deco was a scout.

It was the classical mistake of thinking a player will flourish under a different system, rather than being exposed.

And we sold him for 25.5 + bonuses? Yeah... no chance ever Palmeiras buys him for that much if not pre arranged from the start. Our risk with Roque was minimal from the start. Basically tried an unproven player for 0-5m loss knowing that if he doesn't work we get our money back. Low risk high reward deal. Not much beyond that.

Deal was done with basically Cury guy. He's probably well connected and assured the club that there is minimal risk for us if the player does not adapt quickly.

Under these conditions the club had to give it a shot.

I don't know how ffp works in La Liga exactly but if we buy a 30m player and sell him for 30m a year later, is it not good for ffp? Maybe we had something to gain in this area also from making the deal as well.

Based on what? Palmeiras just made two massive sales with Endrick and Estevao, tgey lost the league to a well funded Botafogo, and they have a CWC.

They needed signings, Roque was there available, a player who was top scorer of the league at the age of 18 before injury in his last season there.

This is a really weird conspiracy theory of yours.

What conspiracy theory, you don't think Cury assured the club that if the player doesn't work, it won't be a problem for him to find some other team for Roque and that Barca will get their money back?

This sounds very probable.

Yeah, surprise surprise, we buy Roque for 30m and 1 year later, after he showed nothing we sold him for 25.5 + 5. Exactly the sum we bought him for.

Sounds like a refund for one of my online orders when I find that the product I received doesn't quite match the online picture.

Highly improbable. We didn't buy Roque thinking he will fail, we signed him to be Lewa replacement in the future, it didn't work and he wanted out.

If anything, we were kinda lucky with his personal issues, which probably made him want to go back to Brazil, otherwise we wouldn't have got money back from him.

For the record, we countered loses from the deal because he wasn't even registered.

Of course we didn't buy him thinking he's gonna fail, but us having options should he fail is why the deal happened. Or a big reason at least.

I don't think it's that outlandish. Player who has value in one league moves to another, flops, and moves back to initial league for slightly less money.

We done something similar(ish) with Malcom after a year.

But this happens quite regularly. Quite regularly in terms of failed moves that is.

For Palmeiras it was an opportunity, because Paranaense were never going to sell to them without this failed Euro move.

Deco should be sacked the day he signed Vitor Roque, because they bought player for massive fee who obviously was not even close to Barca lvl.
Deco was not the one that signed Roque, though he was instrumental as his agent.

Deco was employed by Barca as SD a month after Roque was signed

Even so, must have been something arranged with Cury. He must have a lot of influence on the South American market. Roque is the highest value signing in South American history...

Also, I read we signed him for 30m, then sold him for 25.5 + 5 bonuses + 20% of his future sale. That's likely to be making some 5-10m over the Roque deal, not even a loss despite him flopping.

We are paying Paranense and Cruzero a portion of those 25M. We won't get any profit of him.

Agent having influence is one thing, prearranged is totally another thing

My theory is that neither Luis Diaz or Rashford are players we will target since Deco mentioned them by name and then said they also like other wingers, but won't talk about players with a contract.
