9 - Robert Lewandowski

For all the talk of him being poor under Xavi in his last season, his numbers are pretty good.

49 games, 35 Goals Contributions ( 26 goals, 9 assist)

Last season
52 games, 45 goal Contributions (42 goals, 3 assist).

Not a night a day difference in total contributions, his goal scoring went up significantly, but he contributed less assist.

His first season just for a full stat line

46 games, 41 GC (33 goals 8 assist).

His first season his most well arounded if anything.

Anyways brilliant bit of business by the club to sign him, only thing I hold against him are the two misses against PSG.

He basically said that youngsters don't accept or give a fuck about him shouting. Because, he says, it's a different generation.

Which is funny really as Inigo said he regularly shouts at Balde, Kounde, Cuba and somehow they accept it and welcomed it.

I don't think he's referring to himself at all here. He's never been a shouter. Even when he's mad at someone he doesn't really shout much.

It's just a general commentary on the dynamics between players and coaches. This generation is really soft and precious so it makes sense.

He hasnt been worth 150m over 4 seasons and nothing at end of it.

Barca in Xavi league title win won near enough every game he missed and it was same last season and still scored a lot of goals without him.

Last season won every game he missed again and scored a lot.

Top clubs who deal with market well wouldnt be spending that much on Lewa and giving him that salary.

Yeah, he did try it. Remember full well how he was yelling at Lamine 2 seasons ago. Noone takes him seriously though.

Lewy on how with time, motivational tactics has changed in the sport.

🗣️: “Like shouting used to be a way to motivate everyone. Now, if you shout too much, this generation, their reaction is not the same. It’s not, ‘now I will show you are wrong’.

No, now you have to explain another way. You have to do lots of talking. They don’t like being shouted at. Now you have to take more of the mental part of football.

It’s not just players, it’s people, it’s this generation. I didn’t want to fight it. I had to learn.”

Barca have scored a ton of goals when Lewa missing and won vast majority of games.

That is the reality.

If anything what was missed v Inter was him in own box more than opposition.

At 34 paying 50M and giving him that wild salary? No club in Europe - he probably couldn't believe his ears when his agent told him
Is there like ANYBODY at 34 who has EVER had a transfer-fee?

But to be fair, he's scored lots of goals and many say he's been a good figure to have in the club for the younger generation. He'll probably beat Eto'os 130 goal this season - not bad at all.
But I still think we should sub him on more often. Not like a "super-sub" - but play some youngster on his position and than make subs/changes and let Lewa play from the second half when opposition's legs are more tired and instruct him to stay on his fucking legs.

Without Lewa Last Season In games Missed and Didnt Start -

League

Mallorca (A) 5-1 Win
Valencia (H) 5-1 Up when came on.
Osasuna (H) 2-0 Up when came on.
Mallorca (H) 1-0 win
Vallodolid (A) 2-1 win
Real Madrid (H) 4-3 win
6 wins out of 6 and 19 goals.. more than league average for Barca that season.

Champions League
Inter (H) 3-3 Draw
Inter (A) 3-4 Loss
1 win & 1 draw as couldnt defend in box as score 6 in 2 games.

Cup
Real Betis (H) 5-1 win
Valencia (A) 5-0 win
Atletico (H) 3-2 up when came on
Ateltico (A) 1-0 up when came on
Real (N) 3-2 win
5 wins out of 5 scoring 17 goals in 5 games to lift the cup.

Scored MORE on average per game/min than did with him and these were not the hand picked easiest games this is x4 games v Real/Atleti and x2 CL semi final games.

Winning in 10 of 12 and The two games didnt win still managed to score x3 in each.

Now imagine if that 150m was spent on more depth at GK, full back, wide players etc....

I don't disagree. BUT, knowing our transfer history we could have done much worse  Also, his name alone gave us some aura post Messi left us - big name signing etc. Again... we could have done better with the resources - but those 150M wouldn't have been spent wisely anyhow so in the end Lewa transfer hasn't been a catastrophy like Coutinho or even Greasman. Lewa/rags keep scoring goals no matter what statistics his haters/lovers use and he will surpass Eto'o this season. I would just try to sub him on straight from second half many times - let Ferran run his ass off and than sub Lewa on so he gets 45 minutes to make a difference.

I dont think adding a player like Lewa who Bayern wont pay is some huge advantage or aura and not for the money paid.

It is huge money to get nothing for after 4 years or to be able to free up FFP space with a renewal.

That is made worse when struggling to free up FFP and sign players.

It is what it is. In some way it ended up us having the best coach for us and we actually play attractive football and beside a fuckup by Ara we would have reached a CL final. Barca is fun to watch again - who the fuck knows if Lewa was the start of this new era :)
We should all just chill, we're fun to watch again after a couple of difficult season's and soon we'll have a new amazing stadium. Fuck hating on Lewa for now, even if he was expensive we would have probably sent that money down the drain like we usually do - we're in a good position right now and all is much better :)

Dont agree.

150m for a player that get nothing back for needs to be scoring a lot more goals than likes of Sorloth etc.

A CF for Barca and Real who can do their job is a shoe in for goals. He was always going to score them.

Barca paid too much for Lewa and how little get back once contract up.

The 'who knows' game works both ways.

Maybe Barca win more and get into CWC etc to help the finances and can spend more.

We paid way too much, I agree. I just explained that in my 2-3 previous post's.
But now it is what it is, his last season and he scored a lot of goals tbh. Let's look forward...
