9 - Robert Lewandowski

Lol calm down. It was the fifth and sixth goals of a 6-0 win. Lewandowski lives for meaningless goals like that. He and Ronaldo have scored more pointless goals that make zero difference to outcomes than any player since about 1960.

@Messi983

dude ive said it many times to you, you cant be neutral when topic is CR7 (or even Lewy)

Lewy and CR are top3 with Messi in most knockout stage goals in cl and ofc they have some stattpadding goals like Maradona had, R9 had and the great Pele had

dont respond to this post, you cant win here, just admit you are biased and stop it here to avoid an unstoppable L !

What big games in the CL (other than the Real Madrid game) has Lewa really performed in or scored in? Most of his goals come in smaller games.

Xavi, Modric and Iniesta are far bigger legends and more talented footballers than him, some people just care about goals. Shows how little they know about the game that they judge the ability of a footballer solely by how many goals they score, and that's it.

You say I am copping Ls when you draw a parallel between R9, Pele and Maradona, and C Ronaldo and Lewa  Those guys had far more to their game outside goals, that's the point!

'He and Ronaldo have scored more pointless goals that make zero difference to outcomes than any player since about 1960.'

How wrong is this post?
How's it wrong? They've both scored tons and tons of goals that made no objective outcome to matches. Yes they have scored big goals too, but they've done a hell of a lot of stat padding. Messi has too but not as much and he's a far better all-round player than them.

@Messi983 agrees with me, among others.

I agree with everything about Lewa and Xaviniesta and first paragraph but disagree about Ronaldo.
Ronaldo clearly hasn't got the all-round game of Maradona and Pele. That is undeniable. R9 is more disputable, but I'd still say R9 had a better all-round game.

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't help himself with his obsession over goals and his belief that biggest goalscorer equals best footballer. He just encourages people that believe he is a stat padder with his attitude. Also his goal hanging for the last 11-13 years. Even a guy who works at the cinema flat out came out and said (without any prompting) that Ronaldo is a top player but very boring to watch. I didn't even mention Ronaldo, he did.

I am not saying Ronaldo and Lewandowski aren't great players, because that would be foolish.

I am saying they get more credit than they deserve RELATIVE TO THEIR PEERS, past and present, who I consider even more elite than they are. That's not the same as saying they're not excellent players.

You actually have great knowledge tbf. Can tell its nowhere near as simple as goals only, also.

Agree about Lewangoalski.

Everyone knows how much I rate Ronaldo though.
Thanks. As I have said before, when you play football yourself, at whatever level, you truly get an idea for the qualitative aspects of the game and how some players are more interested in accumulating stats and other players are better in general play. When you play the game yourself you truly understand its nuances better than if you did not play much.

Ronaldo has never had Maradona Messi Pele peak level. And?

Doesnt mean I cant rate him as 4th best and the best European ever by far.

I know some people will disagree so I am taking the high road.

Edit : I know about the cinema comment.

Everyone knows how much I like the guy.
My point is that if he hasn't got their all-round game, he cannot be rated on their level. It's pretty self-explanatory.

I believe he gets a great boost in all-time rankings due to his fame off the pitch, his obsessive fanboys, and a media manufactured rivalry with Messi that was created to make money by comparing them through stats, while ignoring the elephant in the room - Messi is infinitely more talented and infinitely better in general play, the qualitative aspects.

I believe without his favourable comparisons to Messi, and his fame off the pitch, he'd be rated most realistically i.e. below the likes of Cruyff, Di Stefano and Beckenbauer. all of who don't have massive fame off the pitch in this era or an artificial rivalry with the best player ever to make them look better.

But this is the wrong thread for it so will stop.

I’ve always said Ronaldo’s biggest downfall is his goals. Why? Because becoming the all-time top scorer made people forget everything else he does. His scoring is so dominant it screens everything else. “He can only score.” Yet he won the Ballon d’Or in 2008 as a right midfielder and has the most assists in Champions League history :ROFLMAO:

Then the cinema worker said watching him is boring. Obviously, he’s speaking for all the fans there. Tbh, I’m not surprised he doesn’t like CR7. If he had even 10% of Cristiano’s discipline he wouldn’t be a random cinema worker but the owner of that place!

You have played much more than me.

You seem to know true football things like how the game is played etc and I am a God in football trivia(which is mostly useless info tbf) but still extremely knowledgeable.

I am an internet/wiki guy. No shame in saying it.
I am not claiming to be an oracle. Just saying you get more of a feel for the game when you play thousands of times over the decades. I play with and against good players but it's not an especially high level. But it does not need to be - no matter what level you play at, you begin to understand the importance of teamwork, dribbling, passing, combinations etc.

I played with a guy who thought he was a superstar, but really he never came back into his own half and just stayed up front and expected us to feed him. We did all the hard work and good play, he just finished chances (at an ok rate as he missed a lot too). He clearly didn't have our ability at all, but he thought he was the best player in the team because he scored plenty of goals.

That was years ago. His playmaking even then was 6/10 at best relative to the GOATs.

And tbh that is a disgraceful comment - the guy is actually management, but you need to get a grip thinking celebrities are better because they make more money. Ronaldo has a talent for football, but that cinema worker you are disparaging seems a much better person than him, and way more intelligent.

Ronaldo would be a complete failure if not for the lottery of being bestowed football talent, so wind your neck in like he's something special because he's good at kicking a ball around a park (which ultimately means nothing in life, and is only seen as important because we, the fans, deem it so).

Without fans like you, me and that 'random cinema worker', Ronaldo would be nobody as there would be zero demand for his ability. Remember that.
