Thats not how it works.

They are made to look at the defenders they can see to be in line.

It is not 'just play offside no matter where anyone else is'

This is more a criticism on Flick tbh. The offside line is played multiple times in these situations. Sometimes Kounde fucks it up, and Cubarsi doesn't. This time, it was on Cubarsi.

I agree you don't have to play offside trap as often as we do.

It is a legitimate point that you don't really have to play offside line stubbornly as we do. 2 vs 1, we can follow the runner and win the ball in superiority.

We play high line because Flick is mostly trying to play to our strengths (attacking instead of defending). If we ever get proper defense reinforcements, I'm sure he wouldn't be so stubborn with it.

Doubt it. That video with him playing high line in CL final vs Mbappe in the last minute at 1-0... best accept it and move on.

Try to minimize errors but if it can't be done, that's football. We can still win with conceded goals due to this and we just did it again and are 4 points clear.

Play a lower line and defenders are more exposed to other dangers and some of those is actually handling forwards and clearing high balls. Both of those things Cuba does not excel in.
