That was another team back than and ultimately Ara fucked up.
Look, I'm not defending Cancelo's defending skills - they're nonexistent. But under Flick-ball he'd do great - we just have to make sure we have a DM in Garcia to cover for him.

Flick can move Kounde to CB. Sure I wish we had cash for a CB and Cancelo, but we don't. With Cancelo though we know what we get, a monster on RB that plays more like winger and will give Yamal space to go more centrally.
He's short and lacks concentration. Cant play from the back. Also, right footed.

In the absence of a legitimate CB, it’s depth for the FBs since Martin is playing LCB & Koundé can be moved back to CB with Cancelo able to play LB or RB - I guarantee he will combine better with Lamine than Jules or Eric

Also, after what we've been witnessing on RB and LB defensively - Cancelo can't be much worse. BUT, he sure as heel will make a difference in attack... I'd rather give Rashy up for a cheaper (and better) option next summer and sign Cancelo. Rashy has been alright, bit we shouldn't sign him on 20M'ish + 20M fee for what he's doing right now.

Beggers can't be choosers. Left or right footed is not a luxury we can decide upon now, Kounde has a long contract on high wage, he's still a great player and we can use him on CB until an offer comes in and e went to sell.
Just signing Cancelo is actually plausible, only one player contract to deal with and we can move Kounde to CB since he kind of sucked on RB whole season.
Actually Cancelo is the only signing we should make and the only signing that makes sense.

That so called attacking outlet with Yamal and Cancelo bombing down the right could leave a gaping hole for sides to exploit.
I actually think Flick will use him on the left because Balde has been shit too and Cancelo is much better in an attacking sense. Interesting times ahead.

Cancelo might not even play the toughest games. In Liga he will suffice even if teams target that flank. Not like he is non-existent in defence.
Would be naive to think Cancelo and Yamal will be staying next to the opposition LB if it's RM, Bayern or the likes on the other side.

Kounde and Balde are only slightly better at defending, while magnitudes worse in attack. As i said, better glass cannon than being nor here nor there. Also, neither FB has a natural sub, so if either of them or worse, both, like last season, gets injured like last season, we're up shit creek.
