14 - Marcus Rashford

All of the great goalscorers Barça acquired took some time to adapt, they didn’t hit the ground running as well as him IMHO

Suarez was missing easy chances and was a facilitator more than a goalscorer first, looking to find his role in the attack. Ibra never truly was a consistent threat. Titi was whistled early on. Villa struggled and many of us wondered if we got him too late in his career. Only Samu comes to mind who was a rising star at Mallorca and hit the ground running at Barça. Saviola was a disaster

Only Lewandowski was WC from the go and has actually become a key piece in Flick’s offense

I thought Marcus would struggle more in tight spaces since his dribbling is more suited to the Premiership where he could kick & rush the defenders more. But that too he’s becoming more dangerous

We’re 5 months into his loan, months before the business end of season where we should see whether he has what it takes to continue. That will dictate his continuity or not and while I am not fussed one way or the other on the outcome I have the impression he will deliver
I agree, many forwards took some time to adapt. But I don't think he'll become a "scorer" of rang - but he'll improve for sure.
Like you said, not many forwards hit the ground running as well as Rashy. Not trying to secure a new loan or buying him will leave us exposed, not like there are cheap wingers as good as Rashy growing on trees. Bringing a new player will be a risk, Rashy isn't a risk - he produces every time he plays. Also, no more Torres in the wing ffs - Torres only plays CF from now on... so we only have Yamal, Raphinha and Rashy for 2 spots really.

Here is a comp of his great actions so far. Honestly when you watch it like this it looks fucking impressive. Of course it doesn't paint the whole picture but you can see his quality

I hope he keeps improving and we get his absolute best in April - May. This guy will be a very powerful weapon off the bench in big CL games

But it's undeniable he improved a lot. This could be another player whose career Flick revived. His mindset is also completely changed. He doesn't press like a madman but it's not that he's too lazy either. United will be getting a much better player back if we don't buy him but not sure if he'll want to stay there

Lot on the player too tbf, going from English witch hunt to thriving

I hope he’s practicing his fks because I think no one in the squad strikes the ball so cleanly with power as Marcus

Don't think United will negotiate down from 30M, they're not blind - dude is producing assists and plays well. [...]
I don't think they have any intention of keeping him. If no one else is coming it with bigger money or he refuses to go anywhere else, I think they'd cut the price just to end the whole thing. If not that, just repeat the loan.

He's on high wage indeed and if he refuses to go elsewhere they're stuck with him - for once we're on the other side
But whatever we do, IF we decide to buy him we don't give him a contract beyond 2029...

He is competing vs RAPINHA and YAMAL
He has no chance tbh,
Question is if they are willing to spend that much for a back up.

Would be solid addition

I for one don't really see them as "competing", more like complementing each other. We can't start Raphinha and Yamal in every game and there will unfortunately be injuries of course - Rashy also gives us flexibility, we can move Raphinha or Yamal to AM/ST if needed for example. We for sure shouldn't play Torres on the wings anymore against any decent team. I don't think we'll bring an Oshimenh type of striker next summer, I think we'll bring more of a very promising young talent (much cheaper option also) and rotate him with Torres at CF - so we'll have the cash for Rashy...

And yet he’s 5th in minutes within the squad. Not sure what some of you are watching but clearly a LW is a need position in this team irrespective of Raphinha & Lamine

Spending that much money for a backup LW in our financial situation and with our problems in defense would be crazy. So we'll probably do it and then cry how Tebas doesn't allow us to buy defenders and a striker. I understand some here don't understand it's not a question if Rashford is good/bad but how that deal would destroy our other potential transfers in the summer.

Get someone actually cheap for a backup LW and spend everything Tebas allows us on defenders and a striker.

Not fair to Ibra imo. He scored the first 5-6 games in a row if I remember correctly.

At first he didnt have a role and he thrived doing his thing, then Pep clearly gave him directions to play on the last defender and he became less involved after that and struggled. A player like him needs some freedom. One of the few things that Pep got entirely wrong.
