I agree with Porqué, it seems more of a monetary issue than anything else. I don't really have a problem with our scouting of young players, we seem to be there or thereabouts with any young prospect, but can't get deals over the line due to being outbid by a financially doped up rivals.
We've not really missed out on anyone so far, maybe more because of luck, than design. Maybe Bergvall, who has shown some promise.
What worries me is the big money signings the Sporting Department want. Nico couldn't even get into Bilbao's biggest game of the season yesterday and would have been an atrocious signing. Then there is the Alvarez obsession, which, whatever you think of him, is a terrible fit for this particular team as the lone centre forward.
It's really been a blessing in disguise to have been broke recently, so you got to take the rough with the smooth, we've missed out on not much, but missed wasting some big big money on some potential big big flops.

What is the success rate for those two? It is more of a trade project rather than a sporting one.
Chelsea burns ton of talent, and even struggle at times to get rid of them, all while having partner club in Strasbourg, in addition to under the table business with Saudi.
City has same struggle with those, Savinho is a rare success story, while being the player that most of their fans want to get sold.
You can always attract higher tier prospects with money, that's obvios, however saying it is the right sporting strategy seems far off

Chelsea and City have connected clubs playing top leagues.
It is a much easier sell to a player to say 'come and if not good enough you can got to France or Spain for a season to develop'. Knowing the club and set up they would be going to and proven cases of players developing there.
Also neither bring through as many young players as Barca do and makes it a harder sell for a first team place.. while the La Masia youngsters get huge push from media public and pressure is on to use them,
Barca situation isnt the same even outwith the finances.
If finances were all equal Barcas USP would be La Masia meaning Barca should NOT have to take as many risks on players from elsewhere that are not ready but in turn spend bigger on 1st team 'ready' players.
Another part of it can be sure as fuck City and Chelsea are paying these players in ways not taken into account on FFP.

Well I was looking at guys outside the whole Strasbourg/Girona stratosphere.
You got Anselmino who went straight to Dortmund and Nypan who initially went to the Championship. So the notion of Barcelona buying a higher tier prospect (15-20m) and then loaning them outside shouldn't be discarded as there are bigger prospects who are using this route.
So I wouldn't say we can't do this. Actually what Bartomeu had with Betis was an interesting model where we co-signed Emerson. That's another model to look at in a similar vein.
I do like what we done with the B this window though on a lower level, and have high hopes on the Uruguayan lad to develop his game here.
So hopefully when finances return to stability we can bring in one or two prospects per season at a higher price point.

No one is claiming we can't, the question is why should we? What is the Sporting benefit?
Like what did Anselmino do to Chelsea? Santos might be the only solid success from those loans, among dozens of deals.
Same for City.
You can throw money and buy whatever you want, no one is doubting that you can get whatever deals you want with money, but it isn't that successful to get players too early.
With Betis we made them partners in deals, which motivated them to develop players for their benefits, but then again, it was mostly a trading partnership, not a sporting one

Ratui unlocks Yamal and is in his prime. Extremely dangerous wingback
Micky Van De Ven is the fastest player in the EPL and plays LCB. Also great skills. Would be amazing in the high line. Spurs may be in for a fire sale if they continue to be terrible. Levy is gone.
Rodri has 1 year left on his contract in the summer and hasn't been himself with City. This is risky but could be a big name signing that also gets him into Barca to help control the midfield. Pedri/Frenkie/Rodri sounds fun. (Unlikely)
Alvarez is Alvarez. Could be great here. Not many choices. Probably not the best choice. Yet also the type Barca would try for with everything they have and forget the rest above.
As for the Sell types.
Kounde is just terrible get money asap
Christensen never plays so any money is win for him.
Araujo is obviously a head case. It's over. Take 20m and run.
Bardahgi has done alright he can get a profit of some sort here that can be useful.
Fermin would be sad to see him leave but right now if there was any player we could let go and be ok it would be him. He also would bring in a ton of money to help reshape the club. Fermin is limited as hell. He only wants to score or assists and would be an EPL clubs wet dream of a #10

I don't know how many times I'll have to explain that flick bro had a defense tailor made for his football and concede similar numbers of goals, as he's doing now with our shit defenders before it gets through to more people's head, he really only won the CL final because he had a all time great keeper.
Which is why Garcia is the biggest upgrade our team could get, or clutch Valdez.
Do we need defender's sure, will it ultimately make a difference if we play like we did vs atletico or the last 4 minutes of the CL SF, nope not one bit.
