11 - Raphinha

Horatio

You're welcome
His football IQ is very good. The problem is his technique can't match it. Often he has the right idea in mind but the executions show his average, inconsistent technique. He is a smart, disciplined, hardworking player, but the talent part is not quite there for a club like Barcelona. Too many scuffed shots, poor finishing, failed passes and failed dribbles. Still, if we decide to move him on, upgrading him on a budget might be a very difficult task.

The players that could provide more than him in all areas (that is to say provide excellent dribbling and goal scoring ability, while keeping his discipline and workrate) are very expensive.
It’s not just technique. He makes the wrong choice plenty of times. Could keep things much simpler for himself and thus rely less on having superior technique every time.

He is a smart, disciplined, hardworking player, but the talent part is not quite there for a club like Barcelona. Too many scuffed shots, poor finishing, failed passes and failed dribbles. In other words, he is too ambitious for a player with limited technical quality. Still, if we decide to move him on, upgrading him on a budget might be a very difficult task.

The players that could provide more than him in some areas usually come with some penalties in other areas Raphinha delivers big in. And the players that could provide what he lacks and also deliver the rest are very expensive.

Considering the team lacks a top quality defensive player in midfield... not so sure getting rid of a hardworking winger that always puts in a big shift in defense is the right idea.

Good post. With Lamine emergence we have to move on Raphinha (or Ferran) anyways and try to improve the left side.

Wenderson Galeno has been excellent when I have seen him the CL. Probably costs a fortune now from Porto so certainly out of our budget, but cost under 10m back when we signed Raphi.

Porkchop league's lesser clubs produces wingers for fun. We should be fishing there. Porto got Galeno after impressing at Braga, and even Raphinha himself made his European breakthrough there.

His work on he defensive phase is why I thought he'd beat out Dembele to the starting position last season and why I think the club signed him.

He runs for days, his intense and direct when in attack, it doesn't always work out, he isn't efficient, but he can be effective.

11 Goals and assist in 20 games this season, I think only 12 starts.

If we get someone like flick, he's the only player in our front line that offers that hard running and intensity of movement in the offense phase, that flick likes, so for that reason he might stay.

Having him and yamal on the right isn't bad, if we can find the resources for a LW.

But he still had a decent market so good business if we sell

Echoes my sentiments as well @jamrock. I think Jules is the clear choice to put on the market but while Raphinha would be a good option off the bench, he doesn’t start over Lamine and we could find a player to rotate for far less than Raphinha could fetch on the open market. FFP will dictate this over sporting reasons I believe

He reminds me of Pedro. Not world-class but hard working and plays both wings. A bit more on a selfish side maybe.

Would keep him for one more year.

I fucking hate to say this, but he is now actually one of our most important players against PSG. I'm drunk now, but who has the first match at home?

How exactly will it save us? If the club showed anything, then that it can't invest a big amount of money properly. Our best players today came either for free, are our own products or didn't cost us much. Frenkie was maybe an exception.
Yamal and Cubarsi only got the opportunity, because barca has no money to buy players. Maybe it's better to continue this way for now while rebuilding.
