Once the player shows up to training & makes himself available their is very little a club can do to terminate a contract.

Contracts are a mofo to break.

Disagree completely players should be more protected from the clubs honestly. He got injured playing football and that's a risk clubs take, what should happen is that clubs should take insurance policies on players regarding that issue.

He really shouldn't be getting the hate he does regarding his injury, even with his decision not to get surgery its not like getting surgery would ofguaranteed him recovering either; people sometimes forget players don't want to be injured bums.

Honestly with Umtiti, I'm not entirely sure about that anymore. Seems like his one and only career goal was to win the WC, and he risked everything that summer, and it blew back on him in the worst way possible. But the last 2 years now he just seems content on keeping his status as a Barca 'player', collect every last bit of that crazy paycheck Bartomeu gave him, and simply mooch off the club for as long as possible. I can see his career actually going the Wilshere way, retiring at age 30, which is next year, when we supposedly (hopefully) have that no or at least lower cost option to terminate his deal, if Alemany really managed to negotiate that into the deal when he renegotiated with him last year.

But if he's not fit enough to pass a medical, then he also wouldn't be fit to train, at least not 100%? Curious case, this one.

He got injured by refusing surgery after club doctors recommended it to him. I'm sure he was made well aware of the risks if he planned to go ahead and play on painkillers or whatever temporary conditions the physician he chose to follow said. He already had issues with his meniscus at Lyon in which he had an operation. Went into the world cup needing a surgery afterwards and refused it, going with a conservative treatment plan. Bit him in the ass because he is gimped now. Since 2018 he hasn't even played half a season of football for us or France.

He will get terminated next year when the termination clause activates according to the rumours following his extension.

He doesn't deserve the hate because Umtiti was looking solid at the back for us. Strong, fast enough, and with good reading. But once he lost all his pace, acceleration, and not to mention the mental toll it can have. He was never going to be the same. He is going to end up being Vermaelen tier for us. Even though Thomas gave some good performances near the end of his time.

Nothing curious, club willingly renewed him when healthy. And even renewed him in January, and while it was favour to the club it makes it clear case.
The club took the risk, the player was injured playing football and he should absolutely be paid, it sucks for the fans

He has a contract until 2026! It looks like this guy will never play again and we'll have to pay his salary for 4 more years.

How the fuck did he get such a long contract?!?
But what's his plan? Just sitting around and leech. He is only 28 and can still make it in mid-level team

It's still same salary, his contract was to end in 2023 but he agreed to extend it so we could spread his remaining salary till 2026

Barcelona and Samuel Umtiti are looking at a new potential destination for the French defender. According to ESPN, some Olympiacos operatives will travel to Barcelona on Monday to try and secure a loan deal for Umtiti.

Nothing is sealed but it’s an opportunity for Barcelona to do something they have not managed before, in moving the defender on.
