3rd player who wins BD after leaving the club after Figo and Messi.
Figo, Messi, Dembele.![]()
Top 2 were right on the money. Vitinha at 3rd is mostly because the Nations League. It's a marketing award and in today's world, PR moves the needle - people focus on inconsequential things
Raphinha is a limited player. I don't know how people put him up there with the best. Take away his running and you're left with not much else. One of the worst Ballon d’Or awards ever. However, since there wasn’t any other candidate who was better than him, I would say this one deserved. A much bigger problem than him winning is placing Pedri in 11th and Raphinha in 5th place.

Otherwise pretty much what was expected.
Dembele wins it because of the CL and rightly so. We had the easiest route to a final in years and we bottled it.
Going by your logic Messi should have won every season, which I'm not against really.Far from it, unless criteria for 'best player of the year' is solely determined on team trophies there's little logic to it and as it is subjective and using those posing as journalists only underscores it is a marketing award
If you speak about BPOTY and actually query those with expertise, as in former footballers & legends of the game then the ranking is far from accurate. Expected, sure, this is a PR award else CR would never have won in Leo era
Same here, even Dembouz is not Demb enough to think he is a superior player to Lamine much less better than him for the last 12 if not 18 months
These individual awards are never anything but marketing awards
What is the award meant to represent? It's touted as the BPOTY - what is the criteria to be best? Individual achievements/stats? Team ones? Consistency? Outrageous skill/talent throughout season?Going by your logic Messi should have won every season, which I'm not against really.
But Dembele did have some good numbers, against the best teams around and won the trophies. Hardly a robbery.
I'd wager an in-form Mbappe is the best player in the world, so better than both Yamal and Dembele. Same people "with expertise" rated Ter Stegen, a player hated on here, so I wouldn't be so sure the results of those "experts" voting would have been to your liking.
So I would like to ask you the question you asked, what criteria is best for BPOTY?What is the award meant to represent? It's touted as the BPOTY - what is the criteria to be best? Individual achievements/stats? Team ones? Consistency? Outrageous skill/talent throughout season?
Messi was like this every year, Maldini who I would respect for an individual award himself said Leo should win it every year - there's no one in his class. Last season, all neutrals (particularly former players & legends of game) when queried, easily cited Lamine
Mbappe?. He has been outshined by Lamine in every encounter they have had for club or country, even when on the losing end
