I read their renewal offer to extend the contract and increase his buyout clause to 80m was "maintaining his wage at 10m gross season".

Seems legit. Atletic pay their stars very well.

I think the 14m come from the forum suggesting that for him to move to Barca, that we would need to offer around 12/13m /year, an increase over the current wage of 10m. From there it become hearsay that he earned that figure

No way Bayern pay him 20m/year either way. That's just the starting negotiating point. And truth be told, Nico probably prefers to stay for a year and experience the CL with Bilbao this season before moving on. Well, unless he gets a crazy offer like 20m or close to it, to forego that experience.
