This is a stupid question, but are Romania and Bulgaria Balkan? I thought Balkan was mostly the former Yugoslavia?

If Romania and Bulgaria count then those two are in contention too. I also forgot Savicevic, good shout.

Learn something new every day. I am normally good on geography but for some reason I always associated 'Balkans' with just the former Yugoslavia.

Apologies for any offence caused as a Bulgarian guy.

He wants to play on WC2026

Now I hope he will play for Dinamo Zagreb
One last stand

But I doubt it.
I thought about it before posting previously. I don't rule Dinamo Zagreb out tbf. Actually it's a better option than playing MLS/Saudi Arabia in preparation for 2026 WC.

Luka Modric did everything he could to convince Real Madrid to let him stay: He offered to lower his salary, He accepted a bench role, He let the club take their time and make a decision when they want. The club, in the end, decided not to offer him a new deal. He waited until the end for Madrid.

Pretty shabby move from Florentino. Modric accepted the bench, a low salary, is one of the biggest legends of Madrid, played together with Alonso, could have helped him greatly with the squad management, a leading figure for the young players and more. Discarded even a 200m/y salary from SA.
He definitely deserved and earned another year for his ultimate retirement during WC. Not to mention he was still good enough for most of LaLiga teams. But Perez seems like a grumpy dictator lately. Madrid's look from outside suffers, which is good for us.

They're ruthless. They don't operate on sentiments. For better or for worse, this is Real Madrid in a nutshell.

Typical Florentino move - thank you for your service. Good bye.

Had to keep the longevity narrative going on when he's been quite mediocre for years now.
True. He had become a moments player for the last few years. Did provide balance to their team a bit coming off the bench.

Plus no team serious about competing for all trophies brings a 40 year old off the bench as first sub. Doesn’t matter how good you used to be, Father Time is undefeated.
