Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

ThwiX

Best midfielder around
Although the refs made Miami lose the game, the GOAT a magisterial pass and an incredible goal to help the team that should have won them the game.

We go again next week

MLS works in a weird way with those best of three playoff games, where the goals don’t matter at all. They should win the third one at home, but Cincinnati, and if they win that round, Philadelphia, will be very difficult. They have a tough path, as those teams are the only ones that finished ahead of them and they have to beat both just to get to the final. Don’t know how it works, but I also guess they will only have one home game vs. two away in those rounds.

I thought Miami won because aggregate 4-3 ??
Aggregate score does not exist in MLS.

Even if a team wins 100-0 in the 1st game but loses 1-0 in the next game, they still have to play the 3rd game for the decisive game.

Team needs to win the 1st 2 games to avoid the 3rd match and the team that is placed higher in the league gets to play the 1st and 3rd game at home.

This only applies to this round and the next round is a simple knockout stage (like the WC). Very weird MLS rule that will hopefully be changed later on.

That would explain why on flash score app you only see 1-0 & 0-1 results - crazy rule

only the first round is best of 3, they are screwed anyway, cincinnati will crash them at home.

I know that you guys have been following Barcelona since at least the Van Gaal era (1997-2000) so I want to know, what was your opinion on Messi before he broke out, like his first season 2004-05. Did he have the same hype as Lamine Yamal or were people more cautious regarding hyping him up

For me the hype started when he scored that goal vs Juventus in the Gamper.
Hype in the media was not on the same levels as today mainly because social media was irrelevant back then. You didn't have the "opportunity" to read posts from idiots labelling Yamal the greatest teenager ever.

You have to know there was a lot of hype about many players before him.

Most notable Ivan de la Pena (the little Buddha) was so big that shaved head haircuts in Croatia were called De la Pena. Back in a day with almost no coverage or internet.

When Messi broke out there was certainly hype but he broke in while prime Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o were dominating the season in La Liga so there was little pressure.

I did hate that Ludovic Guily. He was basically a RW in a Balde type. One dimensional runner. So was eager to see Messi take his place immediately.

Would say less hype than Lamine probably. Was a season where we took the league, among some big superstars in the squad + was eased in by Rijkaard.

Lamine debuted in shambolic season with no superstars to carry the load and played too much from the start.

I was hyped up about likes of Gai Assulin and Iago Falque back then, lol. More about Catalan media hyping them up than me actually watching them regularly or social media following their every step that became a thing few years later.

Giuly* was ok and also played a role in Messi's development imo. Rijkaard had a proven dependable vet he could rotate Messi with to manage his minutes early in his career. Kind of a luxury that none of our kids who were thrown into the water since Ansu really had.

*also never forget his goal against Milan in 2006 though ofc Ronnie's pass was what made that goal even more memorable but Ludo still had to do his job.
