and I said this in another post.

Is there a Villa player that you can't say the same?

It is expected that the team that is not backed by Abu Dhabi and getting to the CL in decades would struggle this season and hit the heights of last season, especially to a group of players who don't have experience in CL.
Sure but he's the most highly rated player in the squad so we are talking about higher standards.

No one is saying he's trash and everybody rates him highly.

For Argentina, he has performed at an all timer level genuinely.

For Villa, he used to be World Class and one of the top 3 keepers in the PL consistently but lately he has been more vulnerable in general. Not saying it just because of the odd mistakes here and there but he looked safer and more commanding before this. His handling, positioning and reflexes looked better.

Not saying he's finished. He's in his prime years. Maybe he just needs a new challenge. I'm sure clubs like United and Chelsea would take him.

For the last month or so, he looked back at his normal standard so this 'been more vulnerable' aspect is cherry picking a certain part of the season.

As I said, it is expected to have a dip in performance when reaching the CL in decades when you are not backed with limited money. I'm not sure what is hard to understand.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

"His career isn't standout other than the World Cup"
- He helped won the FA Cup and Community Shield for Arsenal. This was the last time Arteta has ever won trophies.
- He equalled the number of PL clean sheets in Aston Villa's history in his first ever season
- He helped Villa reach the CL since 1983
- He helped Villa be in the top 8 in the CL league phase in his first ever CL season
This is his whole club CV? If we did a similar list for Ter Stegen or Szczesny, it will make that look amateur.

If the best thing on his CV is winning the FA Cup with Arsenal, who he wasn't any good with, at 33, that's not convincing to play for any top club.

His international career is the main reason we would be showing interest in him. And its valid to quote it, but his club career is extensive and its likely to also reflect his true level.
Villa fans have been unhappy with him for a while now, and Barcelona will expect more from their keeper than Villa fans do already. We are relying on him gaining his max level as soon as he joins which probably won't happen.

I'd definitely take a punt on him if he was coming free. But given he's under 4 year contract, there are better and younger options if we're looking to pay a good transfer fee for a keeper.

lol Switch MATS or Teks with Dibu at Arsenal/Aston Villa. You think any of them can help Arsenal/Aston Villa do any of these?

How about this. This is what Barca has won in recent years since 2020.

- La Liga title in 22/23, 24/25
- Copa del Rey title 20/21, 24/25
- Supercoppa 22/23, 24/25
- Many European humiliations and we dropped to Europa League twice.

MATS was clutch in Liga 22/23, but Dibu would have achieve about the same or more than either MATS/Teks.

Villa fans being unhappy with him? Is there a Villa player that you can't say the same? Grass is always greener

This is not considering Dibu being an absolute monster in international level while MATS has been riding the bench for the past decade to an out of prime Neuer.

Szceszny was Arsenal's number 1 whilst Martinez was getting loaned to random clubs several years in a row. And Szczesny won the FA Cup with Arsenal as well as Premier League golden glove.

Martinez made 38 appearances in 8 years for Arsenal. He was getting loaned out forever and struggling to establish himself and then got sold after the final season where he played a few games.

He doesn't have any club resume really until Villa, where he did well for the first two/three seasons and then has been on a decline for a while.

He's a good keeper, sure, but we should be looking to do better. I don't think even at best he will be a big difference from Szczesny, there is a reason no big club ever picked him up at 33 now.

That's great from Szceszny for Arsenal, but Dibu's accomplishment with Villa is much more impressive considering the club that he is in (also Dibu was only 1 clean sheet away in 20/21 to matching Teks' Clean Sheet of 16 that won him the Golden Glove). I still haven't gotten a response if you think MATS/Teks would have done the same thing if they were at Villa. Besides, the keeper position is not the easiest to give chances to and you do need a coach that will trust you for a run of games. Unfortunately for Dibu, it took him a while.

Sure, he's had some bad games this season, but if you had watched him for the past month or so, he is playing to his normal standard so no idea where this "he's been in decline for a while". I even thrown in stats to help this.

The reason no big club picked him up is because he's already settled in Villa (long term stay was a huge part for him and his family as they kept moving around) and signed a new contract recently to 2029. Besides, from a reliable source, he already got offers from 2 top European Club. There's only a very few keepers who are currently better than Dibu.

Don't know why people are debating this.
He won't be cheap. So we ain't buying.
And even his biggest hater would want him if he were free.

The debate is finished.

Harsh for it to be considered a goalscoring opportunity when it's Hojlund on the end of it, but still another error from him and thus another dub for Temp

I'd take him in a heartbeat personally and think a club like Barcelona who is a keeper away from being the best side in the world would unlock the beast in him. But not happening. Too much money for us for an old keeper.

But if we could swing it somehow, and find the money to fund this... I'd be game.

Making new errors every week in club Football but yeah let's talk about international trophies.

He made huge blunders in the 2 biggest games of Villa's season: Second leg against PSG and Today against United for CL places. @fergus90

International trophies won't change that he cost Villa CL football next season. Ask Villa fans.

Hojlund took a terrible touch and was going wide. He'd have had to chase it down, and even if he caught it it's doubtful he (or even a much better player than he) scores from that angle and distance. He would be almost at the touchline. Plus it looked like Pau Torres might have got back on the line by the time Hojlund chased down his awful heavy touch.

It's definitely an error and very stupid, but taking all of the above into consideration, could it have been a yellow? What do you think?
