Emiliano Martínez 'Dibu'

Many players turn up big for their NT but aren't as good consistently throughout the entire season in club Football. Shaqiri, Embolo, Ochoa, Akinfeev, Pogba, James, Podolski, Grosso,......the list goes on. International Football doesn't have the same level of intensity and frequency as club Football. It's a completely different game. Hansi Flick doesn't work in international Football for instance.

The opinions of Barca fans or Liverpool fans like me are rather irrelevant here.

The only valid opinion here would be that of actual Villa fans who watched him week in week out. I'm pretty sure @fergus90 has no bias against him.
None of those players contributes as consistently or as importantly to big NT trophies, including the WC like Emi has.

Try again.

The likes of Pogba, Podolski, Grosso have won World Cups with massive contributions and consistently been great for their NTs. The others on the list simply weren't playing for powerhouse nations and had no chance of winning things.

The issue is all of your arguments are based on Argentina and international football. Nobody is dissing his performances for Argentina NT.

We're talking about club football here, throughout the whole season.

Like Fergus said he has been terrific for Villa overall but lately the cracks have started to appear. The big PSG game at Villa Park for instance. He has been very easy to beat on some instances. Especially in the first half of games.

Maybe you should try again after actually watching some Villa games?

They haven't won 3 in 3...while contributing to 4 out of 4 huge penalty shoot-out wins.

Keep writing essays to cope with basic discrepancies in numbers

What sort of dumb juxtaposition is this? How can you agree that a player has been terrific for both National ream and clubside all seasons and then go ahead to pick one or two instances where he was below par in the season to colour an overall conclusion, in the same argument? Even Messi had his off days in many matches for both Barca and Argentina.

Players can't have bad games?

Messi, CR7, Xavi, Modric, Iniesta. All of these players had bad CL games in the big games.

Even then, there is this for the same tie.

Buddy tried to pass off Shakiri, Podolski etc. having the same impact on major NT trophies won as Emi

What a rabid anti-Barca, anti-Argentina troll

Again, as expected, avoiding the Villa and club football argument completely and staying conveniently off topic because you know my "essays" are spot on while your arguments are "Dibu Argentina World Cup good".

Keep coping.

He won Argentina the Colombia, Netherlands, France, and Ecuador PK shootouts across the 3 big NT trophies.

And has the save of the century in the WC final in dying mins.

Now, seethe

My point is that Villa fans are saying that he hasn't been as good for the last year or so. Many of them are saying there's been a visible decline. Overall, Emi to Villa has been a terrific transfer no doubt.

Sounds like more of a PK shootout merchant than a complete GK.

Also, great performance for Aston Villa vs Netherlands, eh?!

and I said this in another post.

Is there a Villa player that you can't say the same?

It is expected that the team that is not backed by Abu Dhabi and getting to the CL in decades would struggle this season and hit the heights of last season, especially to a group of players who don't have experience in CL.

Yeah, your "complete GK" couldn't even manage a PK save v PSG to save his life.

And the WC final is x 10 the pressure of a CL R of 16 game.

The pressure of the WC final is the highest in football.

Magnify that pressure x 1000 more considering it was Messi's last ever chance to win that 1 big trophy that eluded him in the entirety of his career.

This was a game that could turn you into a hero or a villain in the eyes of billions.
