Emiliano Martínez 'Dibu'

So what? With all due respect for Villa, he will be far more motivated at a team that can actually fight for the biggest titles in club football.

It is hard to be at your best knowing that it makes little to no difference in winning titles.
What makes you think he can reach that level though? His career isn't standout other than the World Cup, and there are lots of players who had good performances internationally too.

Some of the goals he lets in for Villa regularly would make our fans put his head on a platter. He isn't any less blunder prone than Stegen and is worse on distribution.

Maybe we could consider him for free and on a sensible contract, but for a fair transfer fee and 3 years+ contract which will probably be part of the deal? No, no way, that is pointless. He is on contract until 2029 so we will be paying minimum 15m.

I thought he was going to run his contract out , thus all the news here recently about him but you say he has a contract for 4 more years ?

Means he renewed his contract last year , why would he want to leave if he just extended his contract until 2029 ?
Regardless , I was hoping for :
Mats out

Szczesny as a backup keeper

Dibu for free transfer money for 2 years till we sort out some finances and get a good keeper.

He is easily better than both of our GKs, but still not a good option regardless.

He might be a one or max two years plan at this point.

Need to go more long-term.

"His career isn't standout other than the World Cup"
- He helped won the FA Cup and Community Shield for Arsenal. This was the last time Arteta has ever won trophies.
- He equalled the number of PL clean sheets in Aston Villa's history in his first ever season
- He helped Villa reach the CL since 1983
- He helped Villa be in the top 8 in the CL league phase in his first ever CL season

I'm not sure you understand how big that is for a historic club like Aston Villa. Can you help list out the GKs who had good performance internationally?

Sure, there were some bad games that he had this season, but is there a Villa player that you can't say the same? This season was Aston Villa's and Dibu's first time playing CL football and I'm sure there was some learning curves juggling with PL games and CL games at the same time.

The reflexes are there when he made the save of the season in the Premier League this season.

Even then, there's this stat as well

Sure, if Dibu's expensive, then don't go for him, but there is no doubt that Dibu is a huge upgrade to MATS

If Villa doesnt have to sell players for some rule.

Dibu would have been the world first 100m GK if a club came for him.
He is good, and he brings his reputation with it.

Its that simple.

Aye, folks here rate any young GK who’s unproven in big moments (CL) while saying no thanks to a player who was major contributor to Copa America- World Cup - Copa America Ws in 3 years, with 4 out of 4 penalty shootouts won across the course of them.

He’s on of those players who saves his best for the bigger games.

Many players turn up big for their NT but aren't as good consistently throughout the entire season in club Football. Shaqiri, Embolo, Ochoa, Akinfeev, Pogba, James, Podolski, Grosso,......the list goes on. International Football doesn't have the same level of intensity and frequency as club Football. It's a completely different game. Hansi Flick doesn't work in International Football for instance.

The opinions of Barca fans or Liverpool fans like me are rather irrelevant here.

The only valid opinion here would be that of actual Villa fans who watched him week in week out. I'm pretty sure @fergus90 has no bias against him.
