There's a fact you have to consider:
he was benched for disciplinary reasons

It’s never just disciplinary reasons. If Santos thinks he’d be important he’d play regardless of him being a whiny %{^& about something. Santos simply thinks he’s not offering enough to play a full 90 min

Maybe that's what he thought inside himself, but it seems that the official version, and what Santos communicated to Ronaldo is "you don't play for disciplinary reasons, you have to take responsibility for your behaviour". A necessary measure to still keep the locker room in hand, otherwise the signal to the other players would have been that Santos had no power

Will be very interesting to see how Portugal line up next game. No way you bench Ramos after a hattrick. Bernardo and Felix are sure starters.

Cristiano's strengths will be best used in ET and penalties. No way he's able to contribute for 120 minutes. Better have him on the bench to sub him on in 65-70th like yesterday.

Would be hilarious if Santos deems him a disruptor within the group and sends him home, and then Portugal win WC.

Exactly. Sounds like a good plan.

But Leao is in better form anyway. Why not play him if you want somebody that would make a difference at the end?

Speaking of that, I have to say when I first saw the poster of the Italian movie "My Name is Vendetta" (a much smaller one than the one below), I thought it was Ronaldo playing,
