Carlo Ancelotti

Its not just about "fresh legs", the legs he started with are kinda dead already, starting Modric and Kroos together is not the play anymore, nor is starting Carvajal at all, but Ancelotti is stubborn.

I don't think you increased intensity in the end. More urgency maybe, but not more intensity IMO.
You threw a lot of bodies up front that's correct
The problem was that Barca sat back against that move and invited pressure, instead of pressing even more upfront and making you unable to play out

I dunno, they started making quick passes and short dribbles with ball and our players were falling behind.

It is natural for the level to drop a bit after 70-80 minutes of full intensity pressing and sprints.

Even then, we still didn't allow anything other than the Asensio goal (close tbf, but offside).

We need to knock them out of Copa.

Then it's Supercopa, Liga & Copa where we beat them straight up.

Europe better watch and learn. We keep spanking them domestically while no other team in Europe put a dent in their CL run.

1-0-4 record against a dross manager like Xavi is abysmal
Serious stain on this 2nd Madrid stint of his, like his previous record vs Simeone in 2013-15

Zidane had his own problems in the 2nd stint, but at least in general he knew El Clasico.

ZZ's Clasico tally is inflated by facing the worst Barca sides, personnel wise in the last 20-30 years.

When Barca and RM were roughly evenly matched between 2015 and 2018, it was

1-2 RM
1-1
2-3 Barca
0-3 Barca
2-2

2 W, 2 D, 1 L. I guess you could count the supercup games and make it 2 W, 2 D, 3 L, but that's still pretty even

It's all about mentality IMO.

Other teams play v RM with the intent of not losing to them (except maybe Bayern who've attacked them but got bad luck/wrong end of the referee stick)

RM come in versus us with the intent of not losing (seem to have developed this habit since the Pep days). Even players like Roberto play with utmost confidence v them, it's hilarious

The other teams in CL went out to beat Real last season and largely battered them then collapsed late on but dont think it was mental it was just one of those runs.

Those teams all attacked Real for most part and if anything it was Real who were prepared to give up ball at times and be more pragmatic and try to take their moments.

Barca bar last night can contain Vini better than these sides as virtually give a RB to mark him.. PSG, City, Liverpool were too open and gave him a lot of room.

TAA v Vini is dream Real match up.. City had Vini in control for most part whille Walker played.. then Cancelo happened.. dont think Pep ever forgave him.

Chelsea as well were naive and put Reece James rigjt of a four and left Vini running at Christensen so much.

Would be surprised if the better teams make same mistakes again at least in approach..but Klopp did!

Barc have had success by man marking Vini with a physical specimen putting four midfielders on to try and out work/outrun Kroos/Modric or one of the three.

Surely other teams try to replicate that this season if meet them.

And had the luxury to face a Barca is decline or in transition.
Nah, he wasn't seriously tested in his 2nd stint

KL brought up the stats from the first stint, when Barca still were world class, so you get different statistics then.
But it was still better than what Ancelotti has served up in his 2nd stint.
