8 - Pedri

His technique is not that far off, but Iniesta had several extremely high profile goals and performances that Pedri lacks so far.

Iniesta was a big leader.

Not the current ones imo. Past great defensive sides could dominate our current team physically. Mid to late 00s Chelsea, Mourinho Inter, mid 10s Simeone Atletico. Far higher level sides than current Newcastle.
Bro it’s ridiculous to compare historical sides to now. I’m talking about now

The midfield absolutely dominated Inter.

FDJ was the best midfielder over the two legs by a long way in both teams. He utterly schooled Barella.

Only so much can do when concede two corners and concede from both at home and then Araujo forgets how to defend in dying minutes.
Exactly, I saw de Jong played so well in the Inter game in Milan. He was so calm and I didn’t see any mistake from him in that game. Relaxed, calm and collective, he dominated the midfield and kept retaining possession while coordinating with Pedri. Shame a great performance like that ended in heart break, coincidentally not the first time he’s had semi final heart break.

Yes, now there is not a defensive side around that can bully us physically. We can get beat by another offensive side though.

Football changed since 10-20 years ago.
Point is I don’t think any team whether they play offensively or defensively, can physically dominate and intimidate our players like the past. The team has grown so much over the past 4 years and I’m proud of the insane progress we made throughout the way.

Yeah, I get your point. But it's not only because we've grown so much, but also because other teams evolved in a direction that is basically influenced by Pep Barca. This is one of the reasons why managers like Mourinho are so washed up. Harder and harder to find players who are willing to throw everything into a defensive setup.

Hell, fecking Juventus ended up last two games 4-3 and 4-4.

To dominate a top Barcelona physically you need to go defensive first and be great at it. Extremely compact, low block, with great players.

Don't have these teams around atm, nor the personnel required or the managers. Most top teams around atm are playing positive football.

Chelsea, Juve, Inter, are unrecognizable these days. Their former power is now a weakness. Even AM to some extent is trying to switch it up.

I think that direct dribbling came in time even with Andres IIRC but at 22, so much time for his game to evolve yet
Iniesta was agressive with his dribbling from very beginning. When he was young he tried to directly take on his opponents a lot.

Pedri lacks that quick burst to get past his opponent like Iniesta.

Though Pedri can still be more agressive/offensive minded if he plays consistently as a pure AMC.

Some think Gavi is more important to Barca and Pedri can be replaces by La Masia player in few year.

Pedri is the best going playing deeper as always was said could be.

Some knew it and called for the FDJ/Pedri double years ago and was told not best for either.

They toyed with likes of Tonali and Bruno who folk over rate.

Rodri was good the other night by all accounts and quite quickly finding form.

Who says this? Pedri can't replaced. Gavi and Pedri are different type of players as well. Comparison makes no sense. They bring different things to the table.
