6 - Gavi

I like him more after the injury. He calmed down, he doesn't fight all the time, he seems more mature in positioning, stronger in his upper body and he even got some g+a... It's gonna be hard to pick gala 11 if it goes like this.
Players (especially midfielders) get better with age, that's the gist, isn't it? That's why it was so absurd from half the forum to write him and Pedri off

He played an important squad role at 18/19 years old to win us a League and people thought he was a bum for not being as flashy as Iniesta or getting as many touches as Xavi...

Nah I'm not fooled by a couple good results. No one can learn intelligence which he doesn't have.

Low IQ players should have no place in Barca. We should sell him this summer.
He's clearly profiting from Bumsi's style of football. But he ain't a great player.

I admire Gavi for his fighting spirit, determination and love for the shirt. But he is a limited player and his general attitude is that of a frustrated kid that likes to stir up shit.

Thats more than enough, i mean how many players fail because they lack fighting spirit and determination + he can also deliver goals/assists, he doesnt need to be the player who makes the difference but so far he is a good addition for Flick's system 💯

We need a pitbull on the squad and Gavi has it.

Barca fans are used to compare every emerging midfielder to technical wizards like Xavi or Iniesta. But you all will remember the system clicked with a great to competent DMs like Edgar Davids, Thiago Motta and Busquets to cover defensive duties.

Gavi's box to box profile isn't first in Barca history. Johan Cruyff during the golden era of early 90's had Jose Mari Bakero employed in a very similar role to Gavi, effective on defense and attack.

Gavi is technically excellent, he just doesn't know how to use those attributes for now. But he's showing signs of improvement. This myth that he's a gattuso needs to stop

Gavi has incredible technique. There are tons of videos of him in Barca training doing insane manuevers with the ball.
But applying it in a game context is really different because it requires tactical and mental awareness to know which situations to apply it in and how to execute it in the best way possible.

Currently Gavi's tactical awareness is poor and I believe his development has been held back by the hard man act and the praise from the fans for that. He was being pushed in the wrong direction over the last 2 years.

To give a concrete example it was clear Gavi was more offensive minded and far more creative in his first season here. But he started to be deployed in a more defensive role and eventually adopted the scruffy doo emblem, which isn't the best way to represent his skillset at all.

Gavi still has big potential to unlock once he figures out how to use his skills instead of playing the hard man.

I believe Flick as he has done with many other players is getting the best out of him and helping him to improve on attacking.
