Balde/Cubarsi/Kounde/Eric
Barca post Pep always been a short team. That is about as short a back four going.
None of them over 6ft and then in a team where as there is barely another 6ft player bar Lewa.
Already just went out CL semi final conceding goals from balls into box with Inigo there and if anything it makes situation worse.
Could well see it this season but it is plugging gaps a bit.
Barca post Pep always been a short team.
Obviously not black and white, but do you wanna have a set piece threat and defence or lots of technically adept wizards.
Now I am not saying that shorter players are always much better technically and more nimble, but there is an overlap.
True. I am not saying Barca don't have tall players ever - just that they prioritise shorter players and fleetness of foot.Barca post pep won 1 CL with some of the best players in world and regularly losing goals from set pieces.
It took probably best ever front line to win it and did have Pique, Busi and Rakitic all over 6ft.
I do agree with your point.Barca have almost always had more height in team than do with that back four and team.
It is a consideration for every side and balance has to be there.
The worst thing possible is for Barca to completely outplay likes of Inter in semi final for vast majority of tie than lose goals as lack power in both boxes.
Peps teams have for most part have had power and height in them.
Good point - they were a one-off so he didn't try to recreate them at other clubs. He'd rather they were taller and every bit as good footballers as they still are (though I think guys like Messi being small contribute to their superior technique).Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets are a one off and Pep realises that and not tried to replicate way could play without them.
Puyol wasnt tall but had good power in air and a leader.
Basically you dont want the gains the technical ability the likes of Pedri have to be lessened as an advantage if teams have a huge aerial dominance as it felt like v Inter and in quite a few games in recent years.
Why did he insist on doing this in English?
