He wouldn't have even started if Frenkie didn't miss the game.

There's a reason Hansi been taking it so easy with him, and the reason is most likely that he hasn't been able to get back to the level he was when he got injured. Yet.

There's rose tinted glasses on here based off of those first two LaLiga games last year.

Bernal was good but made out to be the second coming of Busi.

Reality is he needs time and work- with or without the injury. Just go back to the game before those games, the Gamper on Monaco, where he was as slow as yesterday and also caught out in possession costing a goal.

I'm on his bandwagon, the same way I was on the bandwagon of an 18 year old Oriol Romeu. So those are the two spectrums that Bernal could end up as, closer to Busi or closer to Romeu. He's a prospect afterball.

Lastly, if I was going to nitpick, I'm more concerned about Bernals game against Palestine with Catalunya than yesterday's for Barca. He was also slow, but the passing decisions were not the correct ones and safe only for the sake of being safe and not because they were the best option. That's a bigger red flag for me than the speed of a player returning from a major injury.
He was prolly just too afraid of Hamas.
Anyhow, i was never on his bandwagon, because didn't saw what many others did in those few appearances last season before injury. Seemed exactly how you describe - a safe player. The patient midfielder.

He's slow, so he'll have to develop other aspects of his game to an great to extraordinary level to be WC or close to it.

But he's young has all the time in the world, the forum will turn on him if he doesn't put it together soon though

We have an extremely small sample of Bernal from last year to state whether he's declined or the same, or worse.

Fact is he doesn't play well currently.

He played with Casado.

Wait and see how gets on with Pedri or FDJ.

Those two are a different level to play beside and get through games with.

It was two DMs that neither were passing ball forward or offering much decent options when other on ball.

Fact is everyone (me included) was wondering why he gets barely any minutes and now got our answer. Flick knows.

He's an 18 year old kid who has just come back from a potential career ending injury and being out for more than a year. What are people actually expecting??

Of course it's going to be a long long road to a) being physically and mentally 100 percent, and b) he is a rough diamond who needs time to find his feet and improve as a footballer.

Making judements about him before the end of the season is just comical, give his age, lack of experience and the injury he has been through, even though, admittedly, the lack of physical attributes is already a bit of a worry.

Why no comments on this incredible Bernal cameo?

I think he is finally picking up his form. It's understandable that it took him some time to fully recover from ACL but tonight he looked top class. Some incredible skills to beat the press and great combinations

Very different performance than his last one, like with Roony I have the impression Flick’s recent words on being ready to deliver when given minutes resonated

We saw moments that reminded why he was such a revelation last year prior to his injury

I suspect he’ll still need time to have some rhythm which may look like he is being inconsistent in short term but his recovery is more important since the quality is there

How does he go from horrible on game, to finally picking up form lol.

He's a young kid coming back from injury, he will have ups and downs

A lot more bold yesterday which I like. It's good that he acknowledged he is far from being sharp enough to be a starter for now. Hopefully he will become a good one in due time.

Positive cameo but game was chaotic by then. Hopefully he plays more in coming months and then we'll see
