16 - Fermín López

The window is almost closed. Only a brain dead sporting department would sell someone now without the ability to sign a replacement.

We won't sell Fermin without an outrageous offer above his value. That has to be about 70-75m. I'm sure of it.

Even at 70m think the club will not jump that easily at it. The player is rated pretty highly by the manager and he is young, can improve even more.

I have started wondering if Fermin is brain dead. Few days ago he wrote that fans can stay calm and that he is staying and now this circus. No way in hell he will be in a better position to start at Chelsea than here. Either he cares only about money or is stupid as hell.

Furthermore, claims that a player should be sold just because he asks for a transfer are utterly ridiculous. He signed a contract until 2029 not long ago, so he should respect it and accept that the club sets the selling price. Monday is the last day of the transfer window so he has no business ‘requesting a transfer’ now. If he wanted to leave he should have said so on 1st of Jully.

What I really want to know is whether the club actually thinks Dro or Guille Fernández are good enough or even better than Fermín, to justify taking the risk of selling him now.

How many players do Chelsea need.

There is incentive to sell Fermin for a big offer imo. Good player, young, fast and with end product. But we need funds to build a solid defense. As that is the achilees heel of this side. Fermin is still 4th or 5th in line in midfield, he is a sub for us normally.

And part of selling well is also making a decision to sell a replaceable player when a big big offer comes. If you only sell total scrubs or flops then you'll never sell well. People that moan about us not selling smart but would decline a really big sum for one of our players who is not Pedri, not De Jong, or not even Olmo... doesn't add up.

When Madrid sold Ozil he was a far better player than Fermin is now.

If some EPL club comes with a super high offer, none of those 40m bullshit lol, a sale is smart for us. Why? Because the key pieces in this midfield are Pedri and De Jong.

Selling Fermin and then upgrading the squad sounds nice. But the offer has to be worth it.

I mostly agree with everything you wrote, except for the fact that it’s all happening at the very last minute when that money can’t realistically be used to strengthen the defense. In some crazy scenario, if that money was being used to buy someone like Bastoni, probably no one would complain. But as things stand, the money from the transfer wouldn't be used for anything smart.

At this point, this sale only makes sense if Dro or Guille are genuinely capable of replacing Fermín and I honestly don't know if that's the case.

There's the winter market. And next summer also. Need to think longer term. Midfield is looking well without Fermin also imo. How many goals did he actually score last season, or assists? I rememeber Olmo with the majority of key goals from midfield that brought many points, and Pedri. Vallecas, Palmas, Espanyol, Celta, Mallorca.

Fermin is a good player but the way some post about him you'd say he was a key contributor for us last season. He only played 1200 mins in the league and most of his goals and assists came in blowout wins.

The offensive end product of this team comes mainly from the front 3, then Olmo, then Pedri, and only then Fermin. We have 5 players who are above him in the last third in terms of influence. 6 if you count Rashford now. Hell, forgot about Torres. This makes it 7.

I guess I don't rate Fermin that highly as a deeper player. Not at the level of Olmo, or even Gavi, let alone De Jong and Pedri. For me he is a replaceable player. PSG signed Joao Neves and Vitinha for less that we could sell Fermin for. Superior players in every way. We need the same. Sell on a high and use the funds to upgrade the team with well planned signings, if not on CM then in defensive positions.
