14 - Marcus Rashford

I'm pleasantly surprised by his performances. Not perfect but an adequate threat on the left wing. Bonus is his link up play is actually pretty good and he looks for a final pass just as much as a shot. Different profile and adds good diversity to the team. If he builds on his form, having him and Lamine at the same time will make it much harder for defenses to close all gaps. Sometime just threat potential can be enough to destabilize.

People should stop gobbling down PR driven stories, watch and assess independently

In a vacuum, if you heard about a player as described from English perspective contrasted with that from Spanish media on his initial impact without naming the player - no one would even dream the same player is being described

Rashford has been everything I expected him to be at this stage, that also means we will also see his inevitable best that is ahead. In a lethal attack like what Flick employed last season - the skill, pace, power and confidence will mesh well once he really gels with the team's play

You could see it early days even with Luis Suarez, he struggled or was minimally impactful early but he caught up to our way of playing and the rest is history. This understanding is not always 100% from the off and consider the sort of football the Englishman has played for club & country - this is not lump & dump HQ. I love those training clips because you can clearly see in the rondos he looks the least comfortable

We won't reinvent the player but a player of his quality & intelligence (because he is an intelligent footballer on the pitch) will assimilate fully as the season progresses

Not so dissimilar to Roony who still looks a bit of a deer in the headlights at times - normal of course, he's young and this is a big step but you can see the difference between Masia kids getting minutes and him at this stage. I just guessed he would've adapted faster, he looked to have something natural that would be seamless. But who knows, maybe his head isn't there - either way, there is time & we have the benefit of depth this season

It's mad innit. They should be celebrating it so they can sell him, and make some money to pay the stadium cleaners.
I think it reflects the hubris of the fan culture

He's not just an English star but an academy player of ManYoo - a symbol of their purported identity yet they scapegoat him vs the club & heirarchy. There's a sense of entitlement to belittle or even wish failure for one of their own. Demanding United DNA but damning one of their own after perpetual transition state and merry go round of managers

Although this seems to be prevalent in modern fan culture overall too. The paradox for me is that it is not merely limited to whimsical fans but former English footballers & pundits as well, they feel obliged to undermine the player and this is remarkable IMHO. Outrage & controvery sells, i.e. clickbait

That's why it is hard to imagine a Messi thriving in today's social media world, Marcus looks to be getting on well though so good things for us anyway

Deco about Rashy:

The director explained the Manchester United man is meeting expectations at the Camp Nou. Barcelona will make a decision on buying him in the coming months.

“What we thought he could bring to us, he’s bringing. He’s a very high-level player; he exploded very early, then he had great seasons at United, then he had more complicated management years with changes of coaches, and perhaps he also struggled because they demanded a lot of things from him there,” Deco explained.

“But we’re happy with him; that’s the most important thing. These aren’t decisions for now; now it’s time to focus on the upcoming games. A decision will be made, but that’s not being discussed now.”

Barcelona haven’t confirmed the purchase option price while reports in the UK and Spain have said it’s around €30m. Mundo were curious to clarify and asked the director about it.

“I don’t know. It’s not that high, but I don’t have to say it either. There’s a contract between the clubs, but it needs to be discussed,” he added.

He is saying that the fee is not high and United will love to point that out in June when he'll try to lower this "not so high" transfer fee. Idiot who can't keep his mouth shut.

30 mill euros for a motivated and fit Rashford is a very good deal and would happily pay it.

If we didn't have that option there would be better offers coming for him after this season.

He is still one of the top wingers in the world, what happened in that mess of a club doesn't change much for me. He carried United in Ten Hag's first season and their fans immediately were frustrated when he hit a patch of bad form, look what happened after...

This is the type of rotation option we should have and probably best one which would be available to us.

He's been more impactful than raphinha so far this season, I say that as the original raphinha fan boy.

Good signing.

Raphinha will obviously finish the season ahead of him in all categories, but he's made us not miss raphinha & yamal too much when they were injured, can't ask for more than that.

Well, maybe not THAT much in ALL categories - and I also say this as a Raphinha fan boy :) Raphinha's runs behind defenders and that he usually finishes off his chances is where he shines, also his speed and workrate of course.
But if Yamal is injured - having Raphinha and Ferran on the wings and we would have a hard time against some teams. Rahsford has that edge on the wing, he can get past defenders - sometimes with ease.
Anyway, I'm surprised at how good he is - he also has a high footballing IQ imo, some great passes and assists so far. More than happy with him. If he keeps this form a couple of months (or maybe even improves) - 30M is a fucking steal. What wage is he on now? What wage is Raphinha on?

Rashford has been valuable with both Balde and Raphinha out as he takes width on left better than Raphinha does and allows Gerard to sit more.

Doesnt have to be a LB that takes up the whole left flank now.

It was a role only Balde could really do and it knackered him most matches.

They wouldnt play Ferran that way on the left. As seen this season and last he would be more of the Raphinha role and supporting Lewa with runs into box and trying to combine.

Just as when he came on v Sociedad.

Have options and different ways to play now didnt have last season.

The Rashford LW and Raphinha AM will def be revisited by Flick again this season.

Love you my dude, but this take is BAD  Rashy has been playing very good, even for a 14M player - I think a big majority of this forum and other Cules would agree.
That's my problem right there. "Very good" is overrating his performances. He did alright. His numbers are overblown due to some crosses from corners and some that defenders just didn't want to intercept.
Yeah, he has been involved in play and looked lively. Long shots is also something that makes him look better, he always had a screamer in his arsenal. But lots of lost balls due to failed dribbles and also direct passes to opposition. Zero goals in the league.

People want to like the player? I have no issue with that. But don't make it out as if he was Roony and overly praise the guy for doing the bare minimum.
