14 - Marcus Rashford

Hopefully these goals will give him confidence. He'll always look bad against the typical low-block LaLiga teams, because he's limited on the ball. But if he scores the important goals in open games, he'll be a very good loan in the end. In any case, Rapha needs to start scoring as well, or he can get challenged by Rashford for his starting spot once Lamine returns.

The only reservation about Rashfords performance, which I don't think anyone has said on this forum yet, is does he score the first goal if the defender didn't get that head injury?

Rashy was unmarked and in acres of space to finish with that lovely header.

And then a few minutes later the centreback goes to ground and has to be subbed with a potential minor concussion.

I just wonder if without the ball knocking him silly prior if he would have marked Rashy much better to prevent the goal.

Margins eh.

Well that's the job of a goal scorer .. when a chance presents itself he doesn't miss
pretty much every goal is a defensive mistake some happens by their own some are provoked by movement

That was piss poor defending. But just like with the cross vs Valencia, it won't stop people in here calling it a great goal.

I could see Man U wanting him back if he has a banger of a season here. Embarrassing for them, really! Many of their players leave Man U and perform well elsewhere. xD

Anyhow, in response to @malvolio he isn’t our investment asset. He doesn’t have to be perfect for the loan to pay dividends… which is it already doing, btw. Earned us 3-4m by scoring those two great goals yesterday.

Hope he scores more goals than Nico 60-70m Williams. That would be cool.
I agree with the rest of your post. But bold is actually a bit of a myth. They even discussed it on Redcafe.

Who can you really name who has left and did really well after leaving? McTominay, yes. Apart from him? Maybe one or two others. A few went on to win Serie A with Inter as solid, dependable players to be fair (Young, Mkhi, Darmian). Lukaku and Smalling did well.

It's more that the players leaving to go clubs with lesser pressure in general and do a bit better there. But a lot of their players do struggle when they leave, too.

But yes, the rest of your post I agree with. Rashford had a good game last night in terms of the two finishes, and he can contribute.

Just wait another week or two and we'll be back in the "get rid of him, he's trash" territory again.
That#'s just the type of player he is. Has plenty more bad games than good, but when he scores a goal or something it tends to make an impact. Like I said, thread will be bipolar.

Obviously I want Barca to do well, so by extension him too.

True but I still think you can never bench Raphinha at this point, I'd prefer playing him over Fermin or Olmo when Lamine is available and Marcus on the left

But absolutely, this helps his confidence even if the defenses are decidedly set up different tactically than what he faced in England last night

I like to look for fluidity and connection when you are in Barça's attacking trident - he has yet to fully understand his teammates and doesn't always make the best decision but normally this is just a matter of time with quality footballers. I remember that first half goal scoring chance after leaving Tripper for dead he should've linked to Raphinha but this will come. You have to create those chances which he is doing that and then ultimately he is a goalscorer

I think even in those tight spaces he can show his quality still but clear his best attribute for Barça is the ability to get behind the defense

It was poor defending but to be fair to him he generated good power on it and directed it well. Poor marking and he had acres of space but he did finish well - they can both be true at once. But yeah, if he's more tightly marked or the cross is read better, he doesn't score.

I am not much of a fan of him either, just giving him some credit where I think it's due, lol.

The second shot though is the type where 99 times out of 100 it goes in the stands. To be fair he's pulled quite a few of those out of the bag over the years - he has it in his locker - but most of the time they hit row Z. Same is true when Ronaldo does it too though, to be fair.

His clearly an idiot. Always finding negative stuffs to say about Rashford even when he's being decisive.
Nah I have been more balanced recently. I give credit when it's due. But it's way too early to get so carried away like you are doing. There's still a lot for him to prove at Barca, and it is too early to draw firm conclusions. But he scored two quality goals last night and - as I say - if he performs well and/or is decisive in about 70 percent of games, I will say well done.

The worst case scenario is that he scores a couple of goals every 10 games and the idiots buy him on top of the fortune that we paid for this 1 year loan. If he would consistently score and play well than that would make sense but I wouldn't bet on it. Nice goals yesterday, keep it up!

Also the worry that he does well and then he gets a permanent contract and loses hunger. I don't tend to subscribe to the notion that lack of hunger is his main problem, but for the people who do, it has to be a concern if he is ever signed permanently. Not sure that signing will happen at all, though.

Let's hope he contributes and Barca win LL and CL. That will justify his loan big-time if he does and they do. That double is a massive massive ask, and too early to think about, but definitely possible.

I wouldn't worry about it. We didn't sign Felix either. He started well, but you could see he never had the physical skills to the top level. Rashford has less skill than Felix(or flair maybe) but has the physical qualities of a top player. As long as Rashy is a motivated player, he can be excellent. How long that motivation lasts is the question to me.
