13 - Joan García

Someone above said Casillas. That perfectly sums up this performance.

-Great reflexes. Check.
-Saving by knocking the ball back into danger and having the opponent miss the rebound. Check.
-Staying close to the line on the 1on1 and still making the save. Check.
De Gea is like that too.

I don't like those type of goalkeepers, though. I prefer all-rounders who are good on crosses, command their box, good with their feet.

Casillas and more so De Gea were one trick ponies, and once their reflexes declines they were finished.

This has nothing to do with Garcia as I have barely watched him. Just going by your post.

Think Joan has more going on his game than them too though. Especially De Gea.

Good with his feet, great at rushing out and distributes well off of both aspects.

Crossing looks decent but not such a big sample.

Anyways I'm nitpicking. The only thing I really didn't like was how on the one on one he stayed on his line and didn't attempt to close the angle.

Then again in the City game similar thing happened as defender was on the striker in both. Traffy rushed out and the striker used that to his advantage to round both.

So maybe, 4D chess from Ferran Torres brother?

Hahaha ferran torres brother.

it's a hard life for a goalkeeper. You have to judge the individual situation - do you rush out and try to close the angle, knowing if you let the forward in he has a better chance of scoring close to goal? Alternatively, that player might round you as you said, lots of forwards are adept at doing that. I saw the Brighton winner and that is what happened, but Trafford had to gamble in that situation imo.

Ultimately, a good defensive team stops situations like that at source, or at least minimises them. He will need to decide for every particular situation, but hopefully it won't happen often.

As for sweeping and crossing, good to hear he's competent at those. And kicking and distributing the ball too.

Haven't seen much of him at all but he seems well rated on here so hope he keeps it up.

FWIW, Garcia numbers from last year put him as one of the top in crossing, in all top 5 leagues.

I like his patient approach tbh, he doesn't rush it and don't get easily tricked, and uses his body perfectly in 1 vs 1. This suits him.

While I think he could have closed the gap a bit quicker, I think he did it well enough in the end.

You do it too quickly and the player can try to go around you which is how Tek kept giving away penalties last season.

Fair enough, thanks. Like I say I wasn't really referring to Garcia. Just Porque was referencing a certain style of goalkeeping and saw my chance to say I don't like one trick pony shot stopper GKs (not saying Garcia is that, he's not apparently).

The shots are straight at him because he positions himself very well. Watch closely how he's always moving with small steps. And then look at ter Stegen after his knee injuries when he lost his mobility.

If there is one thing I would nitpick then it would be that he need to avoid rebounding shots in the box. It's a small technical thing though which is easily fixable.

Well Tek big issue was misjudging the time to intercept before the player reaches the ball. You could see it was something he wasn't used to and just had a puff, took a deep breath and said fuck it before running out.

If we sort our defences, maybe next year maybe this winter.

Boi this guy is winning us a UCL in the coming future.

God Damn, I havent seen a Barca GK having a performance like this since Bravo's 1st year.

Just wanted to say, if our corner defense wasnt so shambolic, this guy would have won us the game.

Its utterly unacceptable what we did during that corner goal. Segunda level coordination. Jeesus.
