SPORT witch-hunt article has to be BS.

Says Stegen has 42m remaining on his contract excluding bonus.

Contract runs out in 3 years so that would be what 14m gross per year

Pull the other one.

Sounds more like it. Not the 6/7m gross BS.
It was rumoured that he deferred part of his wages to the second half of his contract and also agreed to a 30% pay cut for that period.

Had he deferred 50% of his salary over the first three years (2022 to 2025), he would have received around 6m gross during that span. For the remainder of the contract 2026 onwards he would earn about 14m gross.

Without the deferrals, his salary would have been about 11.8 m in the first half of the contract, and 8.25m in the second half, 60m in total.

The club has fucked up here, as usual. Why air this out in public? Talk to him behind closed doors and tell him he's no longer #1 and if he values play time he should leave, it's that simple but no, we have to start a campaign against him and smear his name first.

fwiw I don't think he would've caused much issues in leaving on the right terms especially with next being a WC year but now? The guy is going to kick off and make it difficult for us.

Not very pragmatic. How to get rid of an old gk with a 42m contract?!

Let him decide if he values this money more than the rest of his career? What would the club gain from paying him his full future salary and let him leave?

He wants to get all of his future years salary from us + from his next club for the same seasons lol

You are looking at it wrong.

He wants his 42m. No club will pay him that. So he needs us to break even. It's his good right, he has contract and all. Tough luck. Best case is we pay him 14m or so and he finds a club that gives him 28m for 3 years. And even ~10m/year seems like a stretch for him to get (minus Saudi clubs and god only knows they would go for it).

Simple. His deferred contract from the past is gonna be paid still, like it was with other players from Bartomeu era. The salary for next season and the rest will only be paid if he decides to stay and ruin his career for it.

Not very complicated. If he decides to stay, he needs to keep his mouth shut (and his agent also), work in training and be a professional.
