Yes refs made many bad calls v Barca in Messis peak years and still do today....Chelsea got big calls, as did Arsenal as did United.. offside goal in final etc, PSG had decisions,

Argentina was also denied a clear goal for offside due to mistake in the var room, checking the wrong player, against s. Arabia.
What does that tell us? Nothing really, mistakes happen even with var, just a lot less.
Remember how the Spanish and Italians got fucked by the referees vs Korea? The referee got arrested later for drug trafficking..

South Korea was a host.
That example is not helping you.

Host teams are always helped by the refs, unless you are as bad as SAF of Qatar.

When the home team is alive, there is more buzz, more fans, more sponsors, more money back to FIFA.
Home teams are often seeded, for no reason, to get easy groups and to stay alive as long as possible.

In that sense, Italy was a big team back then.
Spain was an average team in 2002'.
Japan and Korea were hosts.

It was the first WC in Asia, so it made sense to push the hosts.
Also, back then European clubs started to gain popularity in Asia during early internet era (especially Man Utd) and it was a huge and lucrative region.

So, to some extent, FIFA wouldn't mind home teams going as far as possible, isn't it?

Regarding Argentina, when a ref helps one team (a pen for Arg at 0:0), you will often see some sort of compensation to cover it up, but the damage is done since it is 1:0 out of nowhere.

Regarding pushing Messi and Cr7, their teams and awards by Fifa:
= BOTH Argentina and Portugal got soft pens at 0:0 in their opening WC match, to get a push and to guide them into the easier direction.

I think he's a good talent, but I also think he is very overrated right now.

Pedri and Gavi are good talents, better than we had for a long time. Pedri has actually surpassed that level to being a really good player. Still, they are too young to be starting together for Barca / Spain midfield. Also, being a good talent in your teens is not 100% guarantee you will turn out a WC player.
I wouldn't bet they will be our core for the next X years or whatever, just yet. We have had too many young players flopping later on.
Most importantly, we must not play them together, but instead rotate them and play FDJ and another midfielder alongside. Not busquets though, because he is obsolete and puts burdain on others, with his lack of mobility, movement and constant hiding and pointing.
An attack oriented, able to score midfielder is needed badly. As much as a right back.

I've said it before. He shouldn't be a starter. Both Pedri and Gavi are still raw and need time. I'm not sure if making them automatic starters is helping anyone.

He is not good enough

It's great having him come off the bench because he brings drive and intensity. However he still is not the finished product and really should be rotated.

It isn't helping anyone, but we don't have someone better.
Best bet is to get someone who fits well with Pedri and Frenkie.
Problem is that we have limited resources and might end up with another FA
