I think they're reading too much into this. These players will expect Chelsea and United to be back in the Champions League next season.

Is it really so far-fetched that they could finish behind City, Chelsea, Arsenal and one of Spurs/Liverpool? Because I think fifth would represent a massive failure on his part.

Based on what little we've seen in pre-season, Liverpool and Arsenal both look better than the Manchester clubs, maybe even Spurs too. Chelsea however do not, they really do not.

Against who though? Ligue 1 sides? Luiz has looked like a liability in the CL at times.

That was never his issue. The problem was he couldn't organize a defence to save his life.

I can't see it happening with Rooney. He'll just sit back and collect his money. He only needs 5 goals to become United's top scorer.

I'm guessing they're basing it on how much they did in the league rather than how good they actually were, because none of them were better than Ronaldo.
