Cissokho hasn't been that good this season tbh, as promising as he undoubtedly is. Neither has Evra, nor Cashley post-Xmas. Marcelo's been very good, Abidal was exceptional (but played equally as much in the middle of defence), Lahm has only played RB since Van Gaal took over. In other words...

If we could convince him to have a squad role and malaria hasn't affected his physical capacity too much (it doesn't seem to have, tbh, although he is scoring less this season) then he'd be the best "Plan B" we can get.

Not really, tendonitis is just not something you can really predict. Either a player reacts well to treatment or they don't. Tendonitis basically means the player is out of action indefinitely. Best case scenario: Xavi, recovered after a month or so. Worst case scenario? Owen Hargreaves...

I don't think we should switch Mascherano and Busquets around, Busquets has more of a sense of the positioning of a CB - even if he does get caught out by pace. Mascherano is also only about 5'9.

Normally I'd be very against rushing a player back but if we can somehow get him fit enough to play the key games it'd be a good thing imo. Then it's summer time, he can recover and we can buy another centre-back which we desperately need.

We rly rly rly need him back. I will not be confident going into four Clásicos with Biscuits and Piqué at the back.
