I personally feel he needs at least three threads.

I'd be torn between agreeing with you, and acting like a mod and merging them. :D

But yeah he's been consistently class this entire tournament. Kinda sad that it's not until now at age 33 that he is getting worldwide recognition though.

Pffft, by ignorant and unaware "fotball fans". We always knew he is the Grande Maestro, Pirlo and Xavi are the reference points to how a CM should be.

That's what I mean though, there are a lot of people who think if you don't play in the EPL, or for Barca or Madrid, you're not good or not even noticed at all in some cases. Yes it's ignorance but it's there.

I think that the 'Pirlo' issue may have cost Germany the game. The big hype around Pirlo after his performance vs. England (and his class in general) seemed to have scared Löw so much that he felt the need to change his dominant system. Combine that with the fear they have when they face Italy (for obvious reasons) and you have a totally confused team that doesn't know how to react.

Löw tried to adapt too much to Italy's game, which was weird especially after claiming: "We won't change our game for anyone, they will have to adapt to us". He was too scared to let his team play their game and Pirlo had a lot to do with that. Shows just what a great player he is.

Player of the tournament by far, noone can take that away from him. What a year he has had, couldn't have happened to a better player.

player of the tournament in 2006 also (well should have been) never fails Italy, poor in WC2010 because this guy was injured.

The germans should be disciplined and cold blooded when under pressure, but they seem to lack that in recent years. Bayern choking on the CL final and now Germany. They were petrified after the 2nd goal, something you dont expect from them. I agree with you, their scaredy-cat mentality cost them the game. But I dont think Low did all the changes cuz of Pirlo alone...

Wasnt Canavaro player of the tournament in 2006? He deserved it, he was unassailable. Then he came to RM and fucked up big time.

He was his main concern imo. Löw disbalanced his side by playing both Kroos and Özil in the centre of the midfield. He obviously didn't trust Özil alone to be able to pick up Pirlo, so he made sure to have 2 v 1 situation against Pirlo.

its a bit complicated but the main men for pirlo and the midfield would be bastian and khedira, and from them the moment bastian didnt play well what do you expect from khedira

Only me thinking Pirlo had a 'poor' game vs Germany? Mario, Montolivo, the defense, Pazzano etc though :worthy:

^You really think he was 'poor'? How come so? He was officially MOTM despite Balotelli scoring two great goals. That says it all frankly.

Im with Deco, Pirlo wasnt that great vs Germany imho. Balotelli deserves MOTM for his brace.
