How is not understanding English embarrassing exactly? You do know that they have their own language in Spain right? And its sorta a fairly major one at that?

English is the most common language in the world probably (if not taking into account all the French and Spanish speaking countries of Africa) and the people working in media environment, especially on this level, should be prepared to be able to understand english if there is such an occasion.

Spanish is actually much more widely spoken as a mother language. So should Sir Alex start conducting his interviews in Spanish then?

Interviews ? No. Just in respect of the player who just came over and doesn't understand the word in the native language of this club. It's his presentation for God's sake, it's not like it's a regular habit and every interview would be in English.

As a mother language ? Possibly, but defo not overall. Doesn't matter anyway.
