I'm not saying he is bad at CB, I am just saying he has looked much better in other positions.

No disagree, I would say CB is the last position he should start at. He is much better and less error prone in all the other areas of the pitch. It's a miracle that Gerard Martin has been playing so well there or else Eric would be forced to play CB

If he is to start anywhere it's probably CB

Flick is not dropping either of his fullbacks. And if he is he just bought a fullback to replace them

And neither is he dropping Frenkie

We need quality. All the best players on the pitch. Alternative to Eric is Gerard Martin, who we shouldn't even consider vs serious opposition

He won't be good enough against top attackers (well none of our current cbs will be- bar an on form Araujo) but he has consolidated himself as fixture in the 11, wherever Flick needs him. Can tell that the Flickster loves him.

He's really turned it around, or fulfilled that potential everyone saw when he left for City. Whichever way you look it at, incredible 12 months evolution.

Martin has been good but he has also been exposed at times. Against bigger teams they will clearly target him. Otoh the whole backline has its weaknesses so even 'targeting' likes of Cubarsi and Kounde could yield success for opponents.

At this point I think Eric will be playing CB until he is needed in midfield. Remains to be seen if Flick will want more protection in midfield in biggest games, only player to fill that role is Eric.

Cancelo can start over Kounde, play Kounde CB and Eric DM - but with Frenkie playing like he did in the final and with Pedri we have a lot of options. I also think, unfortunately, Flick will give Ara another chance or two - imo Ara needs to go in the summer and we need an elite CB like Schlotterbeck or Guehi or somebody like that. With Cancelo here we have RB/LB covered, he'll probably stay next season also.

I don't like him at CB. With a taller CB, we clear the corner before RM's 2nd goal.

That said, he is amazing at CDM and RB.
