He had a top season for the CL winners to be fair.

Deserves to go very close at least.
I don’t watch French football so I can’t say that he had or didn’t have a tremendous impact on the French league beyond what other players had for their respective leagues. Was he really better than Raphinha? Was his impact influenced by the fact that the league is of a lower quality than La Liga?

Either way, I find it sad that the award used to be won by Messi, and now it’s won by players who are nowhere near as talented. Just illustrates what a dip in quality we’re experiencing rn.

Winning matters.. Winning the CL in a non Intl tournament matters even more.

PSG season turned on Dembele going to CF and becoming a machine.

He got 14 goals/assists in 15 CL games and scored/assisted in every KO round from the Anfield game away in last 16 to the Final in May.

Also never really agreed with the argument that winning a competition is necesssrily a fair determinant for who should win a best player award. It can be, of course, but not always. Football is a team sport; an individual player may influence his team to perform better, but his team mates may also influence him to play better too. Hence, nuance.

Remember those who argued that Messi could only be seen as GOAT once he had won the WC? Imagine if Messi had played for Norway and Man U. Poor guy may never have won any individual awards.

But you are right. Winning matters. Maybe Dembele deserves it. Not saying he doesn’t. The stats you highlighted are very good.
I just dont think he’s better that a certain 18 yo who plays for us. That’s all.

Agree. The World Cup was the icing on the cake, but only shallow people needed him to win it for him to be considered the best player ever. And their opinion doesn't matter.

Winning or losing that penalty shootut against France doesn't change his level of alien talent or lessen the things he did in the past.

Nice dig at Man U too. Jam Dav won't be happy, the United sympathiser, lol

The best players in the best teams are always at forefront of Balondor vote.

Dembele absolutely deserves to win it or go close.

He was the best player in the best team and the one who when form took off at CF transformed them.

Surely him or Yamal. Cant see Raphinha being all that close to those two in the vote.

Cool. What you are saying is true. Players in successful teams often do win the BdO. But I don’t always think it’s a fair way of determining who the best player of the year was.

Hypothetically, if Yamal had played for PSG last season, he may have scored and assisted similarly to Dembele and thus won the award. But because he doesn’t play for PSG, he most likely won’t win the award this year. See what I am getting at? Factors outside of a players control determine whether he is recognized as player of the year or not.

For what it’s worth, what Yamal is doing at 17-18 is more spectacular for me. I mean, it’s crazy!

Hansi about going back to nationalteam:

“No, that's in the past, it's over and done with. I feel comfortable in my day-to-day work and that's what drives me. Seeing the players every day,

being in contact with them, that's the most important thing for me. I've now realized that this suits me better,” Flick told SPORT BILD.

Assistant coach for the German national team, assistant coach at Bayern, head coach at Bayern, coach of the German national team, coach in

Barcelona: Flick is more than happy with his career on the sidelines. "I never would have dreamed that it would turn out this way. But ultimately,

it's soccer, and I'm very confident in what I can do. As head coach, you're at the forefront, you get criticized, but you also get praised. Those are the

things that happen. But you have a coaching team around you that does an excellent job. I have that here in Barcelona now, too. It's just a lot of fun

to work with these people."

Being happy at what you do and at a place that helps you cultivate that the best, what else could he want really on top of an incredible area of the world to live day to day...plus, there's Lamine's Barça that can write a unique chapter in footballing history with him

A confluence of many factors that works quite well together and he leaks joy and has repeatedly articulated being privileged to do it at Barça - what's not to like, he's got it made
