Salaries are generally speaking pretty well kept now, bar one or two.
As it relates to de jong, no one takes a pay cut, so it's understandable he will want more than he's making now, whatever that number is.
The question is should be renew him given him and olmo are the two easiest players to replace in the XI, with players that are already in the squad.
Personally given we don't know how bernal will turn out, I think we should renew him.
But if bernal is as good as expected, it's going to get sticky in 2 years and he's not the type to willingly leave based on past experience and having a high earner sitting on the bench isn't the ideal situation.
Would be better to have bernal and casado in two years, both will probably be earning less than him combined.
But that's a future problem, for now it's best to renew him and some may not like it, but he'll get more money than he's currently on, just ask yourself would you take a pay cut at your job?.
