Liga Round 9: Granada - Barca 2-2

Horatio

You're welcome
  • challenging an opponent for the ball
Torres is to blame imo. Should not challenge for a cross that he has no chance of getting to. You do that, you expose yourself because you attempted to play the ball. You also influence defenders, because if you make a move as a striker, the defender tends to respond.
Don‘t know how valid of an argument that last part of your post is. One could argue an offside player always influences an opposing player. Yet not every goal where teammate is in offside position gets disallowed immediately.

So basically nothing changed. He jumped needlessly for a ball he couldn't ever reach. Tbf he can hardly be blamed, it's all about instinct and don't think he knew were Felix was.

True. Shark's instinct is well known. He can smell blood for miles away.

Nah, offside players that don't challenge for the ball are safe as per the rules, if they don't obstruct the keeper's vision when a shot is made.

Yes
Tons of actions in every game every league where attackers make various movements in offside positions, but nothing is called when they are TOO FAR AWAY from the ball.

"challenging" signifies doing something in close proximity to the ball, if not touching it.
That's why the decision was scandalous. The ball was too far away from Ferran's leap, let alone his head, to call anything.

His movement to attack the ball influences the opposition defenders and also their GK.

It was like half a meter away from his head. Maybe if he didn't jump it would have been a different story. Can't run after a ball an then if it's in your advantage just shrugged it off as if you didn't want to actually.

Like I said, tons of movements made by attackers in offside positions influence defenders let alone GKs in games. If the criterion was merely the generic notion of 'influencing' via a movement there should be tons of offside calls in every game.
On the contrary, in this category the legitimate offside calls that are given are the ones where a player obstructs the view of the GK by standing directly in front of him cutting part of his visual field (and not what the VARdrid refs call in the VARdrid games like vs Sociedad, but real obstruction)

Other than that, something stronger is needed to make the call: actively engaging with the ball. Which is most cases it is simply touching the ball, or letting the ball slide under your feet, when in an offside position.

It was another scandalous called by the VARdrid crew

Come up with examples of similar situations that weren't called. You said there are tons of.

it was a scansalous offside. there are numerous times players who are offside move for the ball but another player who isn't scores and goal stands. usually during set pieces, it's so common its like a rule you don't give offside.

Don't think that's true. I've seen goals disallowed for this thing in the past. Clearly attempting to play the ball while offside should get sanctioned. If some aren't it's a referee error. See Madrid's 1st goal vs Getafe.

Something similar was in City vs United last season, where Rashford moves towards the ball while offside, stops, and Bruno Fernandes scores. He didn't play the ball in the end, but attempted to initially. As soon as you show clear intent to play the ball, flag should go up.
