Division of goalscoring labor between Baptistao, Costa, Villa, etc. is better for them than relying on a single target man like Falcao. Obviously he was a crucial player but I don't think they'll decline at all without him.

Yeah but clearly Simeone is not satisfied with what he has so far. Villa cannot be trusted much to score regularly anymore. If he fires up or has a decent season next season then they are lucky.

Those quotes from Simeone are from before Villa was signed.

The striking options this year are better than last year with Villa being there, Baptistao being signed and Costa improving so quickly.

5-0 win vs Rayo today, great game.

Costa has taken on the role of being Atletico's lead goal scorer with 3 goals in 2 games so far, luckily they even have Leo and Villa to add a lot themselves and not leave only one player with the scoring duties. Arda looked class again today, he's really breaking out with statistical output this season. Overall they seem ready to take on the CL, might even surprise people with how well they hold themselves against strong teams because of Simeone's defensive tactics.

They held themselves well at first, but then it became a shitfest of fouls and overly-rough play. Disappointing.

Simeone's tactics included a little bit of Mou's Inter and Real's first couple of games against us. Athough I think he's a great coach, he just proved he'd do everything to win, which is more the type of a Mou coach. The fouls were incredible and an essential part of the game. After the first 45min, we were booked once, they never. Funny :party1:

They were doing great, no dirty fouls at the beginning, just very physical. Then after the red card (very dirty, and deserved) everything collapsed.

Still, it's gonna be very interesting to see them in the Champions League.

Gabi complained about the ref, he should thank him for letting him get away with murder, Henk Ten Cate was right on TV, Athletico will have more problems when they have to force the pace, need more creativity in midfield.
